Scott, out of anyone here your predicts are the closest to mine ( still not saying a whole lot) I have Poseiden down for a 10,000 PTA for a 35 million weekend, and I think Akeelah can still hit 2 million. JML I have at 14 million as well..and M:I-3 for a 52% drop

Better, yeah, but not good.
Actually, if you look at that:
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/ch ... =19&p=.htm
...it was not much worse. At least they had two $20+ million openers that weekend and one $10+ million opener and four more films that made $5+ million. This weekend we'll have only four films above $5 million (Just My Luck, M:I-3, RV, Poseidon). Last year, there were seven.

I'm pretty sure that Stick It's drop is being underpredicted here. In 2004 after Van Helsing and the start of summer gave everything bad drops, Mean Girls fell -25%, 13 Going on 30 -29%, and New York Minute -36%. It would rebound from what it had last week normally too, so it's drop should be soft.

United 93 should stablize, while Stick It will get killed by Just My Luck. As we've seen in the past, direct competition is everything (I rememberd W&G's giant drop one week last year).

I'm wondering: when was the last time an over 1,000-theater release never ever appeared on moviefone? Goal! looks certain to achieve that.

1. Poseidon - 26.0
2. Mission: Impossible 3 - 22.9
3. Just My Luck - 11.2
4. RV - 7.0
5. Stick It - 3.5
6. United 93 - 2.9
7. Ice Age: THe Meltdown - 2.7
8. An American Haunting - 2.5
9. Scary Movie 4 - 1.6

11. Hoot - 1.5
12. Silent Hill - 1.4
13. The Sentinal - 1.1
-. Goal - 0.5
I made that Poseidon prediction before hearing about the sub-$20M reports. I probably would've lowered it to $17-18M.
And Goal is a case where being off by even 0.1 will cost you, so going as low as humanly possible sounds right. I'm guessing its Undiscovered, Part 2.

Doesn't look too good this weekend. Goal in particular seems far too high. Maybe he knows something we don't?

Based on Yahoo! and crowd reports, it's highly unlikely that he'll do well, unless Goal! surprises somehow. JML is heading for a sub-$10 million weekend and Poseidon won't make that much either. And, he's too low on M:I-3.

Why is 3.1 bigger than 3.2?
