The ending of the movie was a bit dragging.

I thought the ending was fine. But I thought the film dragged in the mid-section. As I recall (I haven't seen the film in a year), Jack and co. fight the Black Pearl and are captured. Jack and Elizabeth end up on the island, spend a few minutes jumping around, and then we're back where we were fighting the Pearl.

I actually found that part of the movie very moving and entertaining. Although, I get why you feel it should've been cut. There was no development whatsoever on those scenes.

They should have found a better way to end the movie other than bringing Jack back to the Gallows for yet another escape. The part before that was very very good (with him shooting Jeff Rush's character and his last words), they should have found a way to end the movie right around there, cause the last 10 minutes were not so good.

those were the best scenes. the island scene with jack & elizabeth is classic; and everything else is all intregul to the plot.

Regardless, the ending did show some character development, at least of Norrington.

i never said it was intended any certain way... what im saying is that i dont like a fun and goofy movie for families. Since when does that make it not intelligent or smart? Since you deemed it so? That seems incredibly narrow-minded. I couldn't stand The New World, but I'd be a fool to call it stupid. I also enjoyed Anchorman significantly, but, likewise, I'd be a fool to call it intelligent. Quote: actually, i can compare them. they were both released in the same year and they both dealt with very similar ideas. the only major difference in the plot between the two is that pirates was more fantastical and unrealistic, while master and commander was a realistic portrayal of what could have happened in the napoleonic age.
however, there are plenty of comparisons between the two.
the majority of the movies are on the sea, on a boat or they are on caribbean/south american islands. both have very popular captains, russell crowe and johnny depp. both have much action both were released in 2003. one in the summer, one in the winter.
sure, there are some distinct differences in style, but when its all said and done... these were the only two "sea" movies released in 2003 and with this, we have seen a major interest in pirate-sea-ship movies.
the perfect example is the recent hallmark channel release blackbeard. a mix of humor and serious action.
when you compare the two movies, i see more relations between the two than any other film released at that time. Oh come on. That's grasping at straws. They both take place on the ocean. They take place in, generally, the same part of he Atlantic. That's about as much in common as they have. Pirates of the Caribbean is a 17th century ghost story. Master and Commander is a Napoleanic Era character study. There's really nothing similar at all. liesse00 wrote: Zingaling wrote: People complained about The Da Vinci Code being long because you could tell it's long. Expected that response, you thought it was boring not everyone.
I'd say about 80% of the people (aside from this website) to whom I've spoken thought the movie was too long. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, and I even knew the end was really dragging hard. After Teabing's arrest, it always felt like "Ok, this is the last of it. Here comes the credits". And that's even with the predisposition of reading the book before seeing the movie.

First kind of mini review if you guys care, I don't but here it is, Sam Ruben(spelling) he's an entertainment guy and he does a short bit with a local Chicago station from Hollywood and he said it is two and and half hours and they throw everything in there but it wasn't bad.

Did the guy like the first movie? EDIT: BTW this is what I found on Hollywood Elsewhere Quote: "I'm beginning to wonder if Pirates is not only going to blow everything out of the water this year, but if it's going to take the three-day record from Spiderman. I didn't go to the screening last night, but I sent my girlfriend and she reported that it's not only incredible, but that it had the junket audience applauding as well. If Jerry Bruckheimer, Gore Verbinksi and Johnny Depp can do that to the hard-core critics and cynics, think what it's going to do for the civilians."

it was stupid in my opinion because of the way the jokes were set up and the plot was set up. to me, every joke fell flat and only the 14 year old girls laughed at them. the plot was too predictable in my opinion. sure, you can think differently and thats fine.

Jeff Wells is reporting a final running time of 155 minutes. Seems a wee bit long, no?

155 minutes too long? No.
Now, if it were 30 minutes longer than that, we'd have a problem.
