It's not like it matters anyway. :) Pirates could get $40k PTA over its first 3 days.

I hate to be devil's advocate on a movie that I think will open well, but this could very easily gross "only" 110 or 105 million, especially with its length. Personally, I think 115-120 is a ballpark at this point. Total gross near 400.

Even if the theatre counts for SR and PotC2 don't change, I suspect that managers will rob SR of screens and give them to PotC 2, especially if they are expecting a big drop for SR. I'm not sure how to mechanically do this, but I'm sure they can.

Just for the hell of it, ROTS was 140 minutes and it opened in 3,661 theaters; it managed to grab $124 million on its first 3 days, opening on a school day, Thursday.

Studios buy the theaters, but theaters can change screens around.

105/310

Also, I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this, and it probably won't change the overall numbers around too much, but Disney is doing a very smart thing. They have closed down their ride Pirates of the Carribean rides in California and in Florida and are changing them around to coincide with the trilogy. They're going to open them up again on the same day the film is released.

Now if by some odd chance no one has ever heard of the film and are strolling around the Magic Kingdom and come across the ride, it'll help the film even that much more. It'll also help with tourists who go see the film first (Or vice versa) and then go on the ride out of curiosity.

As I said it probably won't change the numbers to much, but it only helps push the film out there even more (Not that it needed much help).

I'm fairly certain at this point that Pirates 2 will fall at the very least 55%+ after it's opening weekend, while 60%+ would be a good bet. Multiplier won't be much over 2.5.

115/290.

It has no competition though. Little Man, You, Me and Dupree, Lady in the Water are going to make it fall that much I'm fairly certain that it won't.

the more i hear about this movie the more i dont like it. i just learned what a character does at the end to another character and as aresult something happens to a character. appearently they all become gay greedy bitches and i think sounds lame. jack sparrow was a cool hero cause he was funny n everybody understimated him. will was doing the right thing and elizabeth as just kidnapped.

This won't get a low multiplier. This is not the type of film that everyone rushes out to see opening weekend. It'll have a huge opening simply because it's hugely anticpated, but it's mutiplier will be decent because it appeals to everyone. At least 2.9 and more likely higher than 3.

Shack, if Pirates doesn't make $300 million, what will?

I don't think there's a set rule that each year must have a $300+ million film.

But, in any event, Pirates won't fall short.

Scratch what I said before, I was being a little irrational with the multiplier thanks to the summer weekdays.

115/315 sounds a bit better.
