hey bkb, here is a positive from ew(gave it a B) but he talked about the pro and cons.

like the review?

Gee?? It's as though Owen Glieberman when he reviewed this movie didn't exactly show much confidence in the movie and it almost read like he was Apologizing for it in the event it doesn't do well.. I really love this quote which is sure to kill this movie:

Routh, it must be said, isn't nearly as nimble a comedian as the hulking yet light-footed Reeve, who made Clark a figure of fun, playing up the way this office dweeb was really an actor, and carrying a hint of that amused spark over to his portrayal of Superman as well. Routh, who actually resembles a tall, buff Jason Schwartzman, lacks that authority; he's virtually the same age as Reeve was when Reeve first played the part, but Routh's Superman isn't quite a man — he's closer to an eager adolescent.

Jason Schwartzman as SUPERMAN.. :hahaha:

By the way, I also added my 2 cents in at the bottom of Glieberman's review to..

LEX_BKB- Thu, Jun 22, 2006 at 1:13 AM EDT

This Review didn't exactly knock my socks off to rush out and see this and it's almost a review that reads with very little confidence and like it's apologizing in the event this doesn't do well.. Those predicting 250 Million are smoking something cause I'm not seeing it or anyone outside the internet wanting to see this..

I can't seem to shake the Ronald McDonald and King Kong comparisons. For all its great WOM and good RT rating of 84%, KK still couldn't break out; nobody wanted another KK movie. That is, KK had only a small esoteric dedicated fanbase, and almost no casual fanbase. (We could argue over the definition of Fanbase.)

SR is going to be a real measure of the fanbase. The dedicated comic-book fanbase will flock to SR, there is no dispute about that. The question is, what kind of casual fanbase is there? Are they fans the same way people are fans of Ronald McDonald (that is, not fans at all)? Are they genuinely interested in paying to watch Superman? Or is the very existance of the Superman movie enough for now, and they can wait until video?

The other problem is that the fanbase, outside the comic-book crowd, seems to skew high and low in the age range -- older fans who remember Reeve, and their children who begged for the underoos. For teens, the primary WOM-spreaders, Superman just seems too square, and any kind of love triangle (involving a kid) will turn them off. That's assuming they can tear their eyes away from Jack Sparrow for a moment.

I think Superman will share the same fate as KK, unless all this manufactured awareness can be converted into bankable demand from the casual fanbase. So far, the marketing has been little more than "Hey, I'm Superman, you're supposed to watch me. " And KK shows us that good reviews aren't enough. Should be interesting to watch.

Which is why ive been predicting King Kong numbers for this for a long time now. $180-$230m. Which would be good IMO (though not considering the budget)

BTW Erendis - love your sig

Oddly, I think such ridiculousness can only help the B.O. prospects.

Yeah, it's really going to help to bring in your average teenage boy (who are usually so secure in their sexuality) especially considering a great number of them already consider Superman a little lame.

WB wouldn't be denying, denying, denying if they weren't scared of that tag. Hell, they'd encourage people to write about the Apt Pupil lawsuit if that was the case.

It's not necessary to expand it on Friday if it's already in over 4,000 theaters, really.

I seriously doubt it will expand on Friday if it does go into over 4,000 theatres in Wednesday.

Less than a week to go!

Yeah, but our buddy for BOM has put his low-end predict for Wednesday at $25 million, so we probably won't get to fully enjoy it.

And to hell with the numbers, I want to see the movie!
