A billion dollar franchise requires you to appeal to everybody, and most people have a very specific kind of actor they are going to want to watch in these kinds of dumb 'hero' roles: classically handsome, with swagger, a cool hot guy that guys want to be and women want to be with. Anthony Mackie is not that, he is a sidekick actor. Not franchise-leading main guy. Just look at him next to Chris Evans. It has nothing to do with race btw. There are leading man black actors, like Denzel Washington or Jamie Fox. And there are white sidekick actors, like Sebastian Stan. Some people just don't have the vibe and facial structure to be action franchise leading men. We shall see if the box office proves me right or wrong.

His biggest problem the show was shit and after poignant ending in endgame he just gave up Captain America. The series was pointless.except to set up this and thunderbolts. Ford helps as has the first trailer. So if this can do Winter Soldier numbers I think it'll be fine

It's not racism, it's based on years of proof. Mackie has been around for two decades and he's still not a star in his own right able to carry a movie, let alone a big franchise movie like this with an iconic character.

Chadwick Boseman was the most charismatic of them. He sadly passed away. Michael Jordan is very good as well.

Outside young actors, Denzel still rocks and Morgan Freeman/Samuel Jackson/Jamie Foxx are all great.

John Boyega obviously made bank from the sequel trilogy but Im surprised he never became much of anything else. Was so good in Attack The Block.

I've read the budget is as high as $400M. It's had at least 3 massive reshoots.

What a waste.

Why spend so much on reshoots when it basically is impossible for it to break even.

Most likely to save face and not further damage the MCU reputation and thus the box office of subsequent films.

Seems like a huge gamble as reportedly the reshoots haven’t helped much.

Presales are starting next week(17th according to Charlie). We will know once that happens if its a breakout or another Marvels.

Presales have just started at 6AM PST and it has started well. Definitely not Marvels. No comps for now. End of day I would know.

Thinking around 10m ish previews and high 60s OW for now based on OD presales. Solid but not great. Doing well in NYC. Sales are skewing very big coastal cities and of course Disney Springs in Orlando.

OW could go higher if they can up the ante in marketing and let the social media reactions drive presales. But if the movie sucks then it could go lower.

If it had a worse release date it could have bombed but with January being pretty dead surely people have to go to something resembling an event film.

They've basically just switched the marketing to build up the fight with Red Hulk ... and its not the worst idea. At least people know theres something worth travelling to the cinema for even if they don't care about the character of Sam Wilson.
