Re: Predict The CinemaScore's For This Weekend's Openers
Testament to how shit they really are then. It's only a truly great film that can still be great after 2, 3, 4, or 5 decades have passed. A film like The Great Escape or Zulu.

Re: Predict The CinemaScore's For This Weekend's Openers
Ha, you believe teens today would sit still for the three-hour The Great Escape? Cute. Classics should be up for debate, but I also would not hesitate to say the mainstream film-going audience today is cruder and more antsy than generations past.

Re: Predict The CinemaScore's For This Weekend's Openers
Not teens. But movies aren't all made for teens, you know. The Great Escape wasn't made for teens in the 60s. In fact, moviegoing back then was dominated by older generations.
But the way that the movie was made, it can still grip people nowadays, is what I meant, whereas 2001 will never grip anyone ever again. Audiences today will never even give it a chance - only when the odd Internet moron wants to prove that he's knowledgeable on film.

Re: Predict The CinemaScore's For This Weekend's Openers
I love The Great Escape and 2001.
As for the other part of your comment, true, though I don't entirely blame myself for equating "mainstream audience" with "teenage" because so many Hollywood films are pitched at the teenage crowd in the 21st century; not in the B-beach-party-movie type way of yesteryear, but as the cornerstone of the industry.

You don't have to prove anything with me, David. I already think you're knowledgeable on film without you trying to show it off by liking absolute garbage like 2001.

Re: Predict The CinemaScore's For This Weekend's Openers
It isn't crap, though. It is beautiful and hypnotic and strange, and it still feels ahead of its time or at least out of time today.
I admire your truth-to-power cultural extremism, though. The way so many people, even online, bow their heads and adhere to the taste of the imaginary collective can be incredibly boring.

Re: Predict The CinemaScore's For This Weekend's Openers
Besides the first scene of the apes, for me it is utter crap. But you are right, it is strange, but not ahead of its time at all. It just feels experimental. In fact, I'm surprised it got a theatrical release at all. Nowadays, that would have been given a platform release and after a few weeks of zero attendees, it would have been dumped and never released on DVD or shown on TV. Re: Predict The CinemaScore's For This Weekend's Openers
I hear The Family is really violent and that could sour the rating a bit with older audiences. I'm not sure, but it's why I went with a B- rather than a B.

Re: Predict The CinemaScore's For This Weekend's Openers
I don't know about Prisoners. It might be too dark to be a true crowd-pleaser. It sounds like a downer movie. We'll see if audiences respond well to it.

Re: Predict The CinemaScore's For This Weekend's Openers
^ I saw the movie last night. Even though it is long at bits and pieces its still an engrossing experience specially for its target audience. Its going to be well received among the audience that see it. I am very confident in my B+ score, it might get a higher grading.
