Yankees getting Lee might fair things out? Yanks have much better pitching than Boston right now, and the two are about even in terms if batting.

If Yanks get Lee, they will have be in the top 3 pitching in the league and top 2 in batting. No one is going to beat them barring injury.

so did you give up alot for him???? and is it just for 1/2 year??? Then Yanks might still get him next year as a free agent.

I don't care about next year. With Lee, Rangers actually have a shot to win the WS. I'll take it.

EDIT:

We gave up Justin Smoak and three minor-leaguers. Good enough for me.

looks like a steal for Texas....and I was just curious about if Lee would be a free agent after the year....

as I talked very highly about him in the past....

just read this .... as this guy said the Rangers were paying alot for Lee

the Rangers are giving up young slugger Justin Smoak and three other prospects for only a couple of guaranteed months from Lee, as well as relief pitcher Mark Lowe...

**** also how far does Texas have to go for this to pay off - a WS win? or even less......

WOW! I'm shocked Texas got him.
Was it his decision or Seatle?

Wow, this will be fairly evident that the Angels will not win the divsion. I was at the All Star Fan Fest when I heard this (yes, I had a fun time, got autographs and photos of Clyde Write, Wally Joyner, Chuck Finley and Bobby Grich). I kinda knew this was going to happen since as you said earlier Mag, Texas needed another arm to get far in the postseason. Also, this was as bad move by the M's. With Branyan and Kotchman at first, where the hell are they going to put Smoak.

@ Grill, the Angels are suffering cause of too many injuries. This is the same thing that cost Texas the division last year.

Twins slumping... Maybe they would have needed Lee. They even showed intention.
So, who will get Oswalt now?

supposely CC is still close to Lee, and Lee was OK with playing in New York - even talking about places to live - so maybe after the year when he is a free agent.

Too many injuries now. At least Bucholtz, Beckett Ellisbury and Martinez are all coming back around the same time. Could give us a much needed boost of energy. But we're not playing terrible, it was a close series with TB

Well all teams have injuries during the year.

Shit the Mets are missing like 3 pitchers. 2 Catcher, 2 first baseman, 1 second baseman, 1 shortstop, 1 center fielder. For parts of the year.

Any of these nameless Mets as talented as Pedroia, Martinez, Beckett, Varitek, and Buccholz? Were they also out at the same time? The Red Sox have been the worst hit by the injury bug this year and they're still very much in the hunt. The Red Sox had the best record in baseball between late May and late June, when they were mostly healthy. If they can get healthy again, they'll be very good once again. Or it could turn out like '06 when injuries pretty much killed their season.

First how many games has Clay, Pereroia and Martinez missed. And Beckett usually comes up with an injury during the year.

Beltran is the leader of the Mets and a great outfielder. Maine and Perez don't equal Beckett but when you have to replace your 3 and 4 pitchers, you are screwed. Castillo is the veteran of the infield. And then going to 3rd string 1B and C also hurt.

Just over two weeks. They've been 6-7 without them, which is actually kind of good considering how important they've been. And it's not just Beckett and Buchholz who've been hurt. Matsuzaka and Lester also went down (Dice-K much longer than Lester). So like the Mets they've also had to plug in pitchers here and there. As for the infield situation the Mets have, the Red Sox have had a similar one. Did anyone know who Daniel Nava, Darnell McDonald, Eric Patterson, and Gustavo Molina were at the beginning of the year outside of Theo Epstein? Did anyone think we'd have to trade for Kevin Cash again? :funny:

By the way, here's the complete disabled list. I actually forgot about a few of these guys.

Josh Beckett P
Clay Buchholz P
Manny Delcarmen RP
Jacoby Ellsbury LF
Dustin Pedroia 2B
Victor Martinez C/1B
Jason Varitek C
Jeremy Hermida LF/RF
Mike Lowell 3B
Jed Lowrie SS/2B
Junichi Tazawa P *

* Not a factor because I don't think he pitched in one regular season game.

2 starting pitchers (3 if we include Tazawa), one reliever (who had pitched well), 3 everyday starters, 3 key utility guys, and Jed Lowrie. No one has had to plug in that many holes this year.

As for Bill Hall, the answer should be no. But considering how many players have gone down, I'm glad we have someone with experience to put in there.

yup, just goes to show all teams get injuries...and the Red Sox and Mets have been hit...but even the Yankees, they haven't had as many but still, it sucks when you lose players for good parts of the season.

Off the top of my head, the Yankees have lost their starters at C, LF, CF, and then good fill in people at RF and a couple of relief players....

It sucks for any team when any team can't play their starting 9.

Also that was a big reason for the troubles of the Mets in 2007, 2008, (not 2009) as the Mets had massive injuries - shit, one year they lost their #1 closer for half the year plus lots of other players...and only lost out on the playoffs on the last day of the season..

The Rangers got swept by Baltimore :funny: . And this was a 4-game series, at home.

Yes, even with a 4.5 game lead, Texas has to stay healthy to keep this lead up, since the real test will be in September, and the games with my Angels. Texas tends to collapse in September and the Angels are hottest during this month. Have Lee certainly helps cause before him, nobody in that rotation can do deep in games, and Lee can, so they needed him to rest that bullpen. Having him and CJ back to back will be the right thing for Ron to do. As for my Angels, the injuries were killing us that we had to use AAA people to fill our holes, but as soon as Izturis comes back, back to 3rd base he goes, and Bulger and Stokes should be back soon to stablize the bullpen. Hopefully this rest will get them out of the funk they are in. As for the division it's still up for grabs for both teams.

Good game. It won't be remembered a year from now, but well played and competitive.

On a side note, I hope the Red Sox don't officially adopt those new helmets. If they do they need to change the color scheme (add Red on the brim), because they looked real fucking stupid on Beltre and Ortiz.

and Sleig says, prberly no more replsy changes, fool!!!!!

and he likes the winner of this game, gets WS rather than other ways...BUGGER FOOL, THAN STOP FORCING RULES ON THESE TEAMS, AND LET THEM PLAY THE BEST TEAM EACH!!!!!!

Your monitor doesn't give off light?

And as to your original point, I don't think he cares the NL won. The AL had won each game for the last 15 years. I don't think he put that rule in place (however many years ago it was) as an advantage for the NL.

Just saying that it is a stupid rule. To make something as important as WS home field advantage tied to an exhibition game....where they force players on you and know even exclude other players from you.

SIMPLE....BEST RECORD...BEST HOME RECORD...EVEN BEST AWAY RECORD....WHATEVER! BUT THIS!

BUT THIS GUY IGNORED STEROIDS FOR A DECADE AND DOESN'T MIND UMPS MAKING HORRIBLE CALLS, WOULDN'T EXPECT ANYTHING DIFFERENT!
