I don't remember right now, but was there an elevator scene in DH2? Because the three other movies in the series have an important action scene that happens in an elevator.

Um, so I was totally surprised by this. I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did, especially because of all the praise it has received. But it was great. The best Die Hard maybe.

They were not killers. They were just non-violent computer geeks. A few scenes earlier they even ask Gabriel what all the guns are for. For them the tunnel scene was the moment where the line from a "computer game" to an intentional murder was crossed.

The guy operating the traffic didn't want to commit murder.

There was one guy that asked.

I do believe Maggie had killed before. She didnt suddenly learned how to karate kick and shoot a gun.

Maggie wasn't shocked by that moment. Only the guy operating the traffic was hesitating, from what I can recall. Was that really the same guy who joined Gabriel in the end? I actually had a hard time separating the hackers from each other, so I don't remember.

It does sound kinda strange thought, that a very minor moment like that crippled the film for you. One of the henchmen - a non-violent hacker geek - hesitated to personally commit murder, and that is a major flaw? Some people don't like to get their hands personally dirty, he was probably one of those people.

The thing is if that if they stop sequels, they will just make more look-alikes. Which honestly are even worse than sequels most of the time.

Honestly, if they called Live Free or Die Hard something else, removed all references to John, I would have still disliked it but maybe a D- instead of the F+.

Was I the only one that totally knew it was a model of the Capitol building that was going to be blown up on the broadcast? It didnt even look real on screen, I would think government officals would have known the difference as well.

Also, I hated the scene where John tosses the guy down the stairs, then shoots the gun off into the corner to give the impression to Gabriel that he killed him. John would NEVER do that. This is the same guy that killed a baddie, dressed him up like Santa, and wrote a funny joke and hung it on the corpse. He's borderline psychotic.

The thing that really bothered me was how easily McClane & son hopped around from state to state despite all fucking traffic networks being shut down. The roads are all just totally empty... Really?

It was better then anything directed by Lens Wiseman had a right to be.

Please, the elevator scene in 3 was kick ass "Anyone see the lottery last night...I got the tickets right here bang bang bang" That was an intense scene. There is an elevator in 2, but its only thing is when McClane is denied access.

I really did not like this. Then again, I'm not a fan of non-talking Robot/Pirate/Superhero action films. It had a few good moments though.
Overall, the story was weak, the action repetitive, and Bruce's character played out.

C-/D+

I wish it was funnier (Die Hards 1-3 are some of the funniest movies I know, raising action-movie-hero-tough-guy-speak to a profane artform); seriously, the dialogue was really, really weak. And McClane kept calling everyone 'jerk off,' which was pathetic. I also wish that set piece between the truck and the jet was not in the movie. It blew. And Kevin Smith sucks at life.

Despite that, I did like the film. The action really was well shot and exciting. I had fun. Bruce Willis pummeling the shit out of that 'dumb Asian hooker bitch' was misogynistic action filmmaking done right. As was the subsequent cracking wise about her untimely death.

But I don't know what brain hemmorhage is causing some of you to think this is as good (or better!) than any of the originals.

The Jerk offs were easily dubbed most of the time. The unrated will have a new gateway of great curses from John McClane

I've never seen any of the Die Hard movies and this one wasn't on my "to see" List either, but the traiLer Left me with some interest and the comments on this forum got me excited hoping that it wiLL be as great as my most anticipated fiLm of 2006, M:i:3. And it didn't faiL to Live up with my expectations. From the intruiging storyLine, cars crashing at heLicopters, and ridicuLous one-Liners by Bruce WiLLis, this was just one of the two or three fiLms I've seen in 2007 that never stops from entertaining. Bruce WiLLis gives his best performance since Sin City as 57-year-oLd major ass-kicker better-than-Superman John McLane.

I was thoroughly impressed, but that's only because the action scenes were unlike anything I'd seen before. Truly, my mouth was gaping a lot of the time. Luckily, the rest of the movie's not that far behind. The script has some weak spots, but it's mostly solid, and the acting is surprisingly decent. Bruce is Bruce, of course, but Justin Long is pretty funny and Timothy Olyphant is a great villain. The editing a.k.a. censorship bothered me a bit, especially the trademark line, but there's enough snappy dialogue to overcome it. The action was great, but it got to be a bit much by the end of it, especially the truck + jet bit. The climactic scene is aces, though. Not as good as 1 or 3, but miles ahead of 2.

Weren't they shooting for a PG-13 while filming the movie? I don't think the unrated version is going to have as many new swear words as you think.

No, it was intended as an R up until a couple of months or so ago.

There are two complaints I've got with this film and I'll get them right out of the way before I proceed with all the good stuff. For one, the final showdown was a bit too simple and low-key for my taste. It worked for the first Die Hard film because it came across far more dramatic. Worked not so well in this one, though I must say the "line" worked very well in the context of the ending afterall, heh.

For another (and this is certainly a bigger one)....don't get me wrong. It was a fantastic action movie and the best since Casino Royale (and M:I-3 before that)...but it simply didn't feel like a Die Hard movie. Something was lacking and I can't put my finger on it. It didn't have the same kind of charme/humor. There was humor and it was fun and all, but it was just different.

However, I am judging it on its own merits and for that it was damn entertaining. The running time was perfect and I never felt bored, not even for a second. To my huge surprise, Justin Long made for a decent sidekick to John McClane (though I was certainly missing the chemistry Willis had with Jackson in the third film). Mary E. Winstead was surprisingly good as McClane's sassy daughter. I laughed at her line to Long towards the end of the film. Then...Willis...he was, of course, perfect for a role, though, once again, it did not feel too much like John McClane, but he was still an excellent action hero. The villains, I was not really disappointed with like some of you were. Timothy Olyphant was solid and Maggie Q kicked ass as did the one unstoppable henchman.

The PG-13 rating didn't hurt it too much as it was certainly the most brutal and violent PG-13 movie I have ever seen. Plenty of action...and, boy, was that action awesome! Some of the action setpieces were one of the most exciting I have seen in years. I also liked that they didn't rely too much on CG effects.

On the whole, a very effective, entertaining and well-made actioner. Bring on Die Hard 5!
