Seriously, if the writers play around with flashbacks as much as they did in this season, I'm not entirely against the writers getting rid of them. I think this seriously might be the best season of Lost yet, even WITH the first 6.
Yeah, I agree. I'll have to watch it again on DVD, but I think it is. Season One had a much weaker finale and just as many sub-par episodes.

I don't think he was speaking literally. And he probably forged his father's signature.@Jon: Yeah, now that I think of it, it could be Juliet. Fits in with having no one come to the funeral. a doctors note has the doctors name printed on it. it is possible jack had extra lying around i guess.
I'm pretty sure that Jack's dad is dead. They referenced him in the flash-forward just to throw us off, but they never showed him. Jack was hammered, so him referring to his dad as being alive can't be taken as fact, and the prescription note just had "Shepherd" on it, I assume (hence why the pharmacist refused to accept it) so it just as easily could have been Jack passing one of his own prescriptions off as his fathers'.

Wow amazing finalle. Here is my theory, they leave the island and they have to go back to the island to save it. Realize their is something about Jacob. I think that boat is connected to Penny's father (who else would know Desmond is on that island?) So I think that is the Dharma Intiitiative and Hanso. I think they rescue the survivors and get them off and then take over the island. Jack wants to go back to save the island from Dharma or save Jacob who wanted help. I suspect we will show them go back and the flashbacks will be what their lives were like after coming back sort of like Jack's. Also I think people are overlooking who the dead guy was. The neighborhood was a poor black one. I don't think no white person would be in that funeral home. So either black or a miniority so I am going to say it's Michael. Realize they all hate Michael after what he had dead, hell his son may have hated him too and not even went to his funeral. I wouldn't put it past Sawyer or one of the other survivors to hunt Michael down and kill him.

I don't think they'll be taken off of the island and then go back to save it. The whole buildup for this entire show has been "when are they getting off of the island," and if they get off the island, there won't be as much interest to see them save it, its almost anticlimatic. I don't think they'll set one foot off of this island until the very last episode.

But I don't think they could spend 3 years showing them get off. I stand by my theory. I think the other survivors will have cursed lives as well and will realize they have to go back.

I think they'll keep the show on the island but start doing these flash-forwards. They could play with notions of fate and destiny and have fun with it. For instance, they could have a flash-forward 'change' halfway through based on what a character does in the episode. It could be really interesting.
Or they'll just go back to flashbacks.

Hm, good point on the neighborhood. With that in mind, I can't really think of it being anyone other than Michael.
Oyyyyyyy.

But I can't see how they can deal with that for three years. It would only take a couple of days to get rescued. Remebmer Desmond saw Helocopters. I think they (or at least some of the survivors) will be forced to go back. I think that is the game changer it will no longer be about rescue but all about the island itself.

I think this is a one-time only thing. But where they go from here...and we have to wait 8 months to find out...

That is the part that I don't like. Any of his could be right or we could all be wrong but we have to wait 8 months to find out the truth.

Here's a screencap of the newspaper Jack was reading. It's an article, not an obit:
http://img11.imagevenue.com/view.php?image=77643_vlcsnap-5392883_123_860lo.jpg
What I can read says:
LOS ANGELES
Man found dead... downtown loft.
The body of J ... antham of New York was found shortly after 4 a.m in the ... Grand Avenue.
... man at The Tower ... heard loud noises ... discovered the ... from a beam in the ...
That's about all I can get. Seems like whoever it was hung themselves. And the name is either an alias or someone we haven't met yet, as it doesn't match anyone who we know.

Well that doesn't fit Michael. I guess it could be some character we never really met. There are about 40 survivors and a lot of unnamed people.

Jack Shepherd?
Anyway, it looks like the 'antham' is the end of their last name, whoever they are, so it's not anyone we know right now. Though, as I said, it could be an alias.

I have some disappointing news folks. The season tally has changed, thus its more like NINE months, and not eight. It'll actually restart in February to be able to have 16 episodes. Feb to May sweeps. It won't be starting in January as then there would be repeats. Sorry to be the bearer of this news!

I guess it could be Jacob, if he is indeed a real person.
Way to go Lost on creating their best finale yet and probably one of their best episodes ever. These 8 months are gonna be gruesome.

Could be a character we haven't met either. Jack might feel bad that one of the survivors died. Kate reacted that way because she didn't know the person. Why would she go to a funeral when she didn't know the guy. That is my theory now.

So that finale was absolutely amazing, with a chilling and daringly original ending. It was easily the best finale of the season, and the best the show has ever had as well.
Season three is easily on par with season one for me, which was A+ territory. And I'm in the minority, but I also loved the first six episodes of the season. In fact, the only episode I wasn't impressed with this year was the "Jack's tattoos" episode.
It's going to be a long nine months

BEST
EPISODE
YET!
Wow. Great great episode. I thought it was funny in Jack's "flash forward" that he had a razor phone thingy. I was thinking "They did'nt have those back then." I just thought it was a looked over mistake on the show. Guess I was wrong.

I'm never reading a spoiler again, ahhh. That was good, but it would've been amazing if I didn't know everything that was going to happen.
By the way, the dead guy? Totally Ben. No-one came to his funeral because he was born on an island and no-one in the real world knows who he is... plus Kate looked disgusted when asked if she would go. That ties into the fact that Jack obviously felt a lot more for Ben and his truthful warning before he got off the island, than Kate who believed they should've.
