Could Sacha Baron Cohen really be a contender? Poland is pushing it, but I wonder if critics will.

If Borat make 200 million, he will be lock.

You heard it first here!

Umm, not sure how much range Borat is going to allow Sacha Baron Cohen to show.

Lots of poor word is leaking out on the internet.

Where? Variety gave it a positive review and the other review thats on RT said it's deserving of oscar recognition.

So...

Whitaker
O'Toole
Pitt
Damon
Pierce

Bottom 2 are slightly hazy, Pierce is just a wild guess from me.

Hm, well, Kingsley's and De Niro's wins certainly were deserving. But, really, he had the misfortune of being nominated next to win-locks pretty often like Peck, Kingsley, Brando and De Niro. 1964 and 1968 were his best chances.

In 64 he should have lost to Sellers.

Leonardo DiCaprio
Forest Whitaker
Peter O'Toole
Will Smith
Brad Pitt (if lead)

Quite an impressive line-up if it vomes true. If it does, O'Toole will be winning.

These two are locks:

Forest Whitaker
Peter O'Toole

the rest are wild guesses so far... but either way, I think it's going to be O'Toole's year (finally!)

I'd replace Smith with Jude Law.

I actually don't know anything about either of their films but I don't think Smith will get nominated.

Hmm, can Law be nominated three times for a Minghella film? Possible...

At this point, Whitaker is the only one who can beat O'Toole.

ok, here we go:

Forrest Whitaker - The Last King of Scotland (locked)
Peter O'Toole - Venus (locked)
Leonardo DiCaprio - The Departed
Ryan Gosling - Half Nelson (it has the reviews, but the movie needs to expand more, I guess... I still think he'll make it, though.. weak category this year, or so it seems so far)
Matt Damon - The Good Shepherd

Alternates: Patrick Wilson (Little Children), Will Smith (The Pursuit of Happyness), George Clooney (The Good German)

Jude Law seems to be out...

O'Toole, Whittaker, and Leo should all be good for nominations. So 2 more slots. Pitt and Damon I guess for now.

Might be a good guess....

http://hollywood-elsewhere.com/archives ... ost_47.php

Quote:
While speaking to Factory Girl star Sienna Miller, Daily Mail columnist Baz Bamigboye makes mention of the fact that "those who have seen early rough-cut versions" -- partly a reference to yours truly -- "tell me the performances of Sienna and leading man Guy Pearce, as Warhol, are brilliant. So much so that studio chief Harvey Weinstein plans a year-end Oscar campaign for them."

I never said anything rock-solid about Harvey planning to release Factory Girl, so presumably Baz has done some digging of his own. That or Sienna said so.

Here's how I put it in mid-August: "I know award-quality when I see it, and Sienna Miller's capturing of Edie Sedgwick totally rates. It may be the most eerily accurate reviving of a dead person I've ever seen in a film. And yet Miller projects dimension and gravitas in spades -- an unmistakable sadness and snap and aliveness like nothing I've gotten from an actress in any movie so far this year. She isn't just a dead ringer for the real McCoy -- she gets her fluttery debutante laugh, that mixture of Warholian cool and little-girl terror, the giddy euphoria, the cracked voice. It's more than convincing -- it's a kind of rebirthing."

Pitt is going for supporting, as Kris Tapley is told.

DiCaprio will almost certainly get in. All reviews praise him in The Departed.

If he actually turns in a great performance, he might be the front-runner. nad make the Best Actor race a bit more interesting. I don't know of there was a chance of him winning had he gone for and got nominated for lead.

Okay, now we're going a little far. He's a contender (I'm very close to predicting him), but almost certain? He's not that beloved by the academy, and I think Jack will suck up most of his energy come awards season.

My predictions:

Matt Damon, The Good Shepard
Ryan Gosling, Half Nelson (Risky, I know, but everyone who sees the film loves him, and ThinkFilm sounds very confident in campaigning this)
Peter O'Toole, Venus
Will Smith, The Pursuit of Happyness
Forest Whitiker, The Last King of Scotland

Even though his name hasn't been mentioned by anyone, Ed Harris playing Beethoven was a possibility. It's looking like it's not one anymore.

I don't think Gosling will get in unless the race weakens by quite a bit.

He was great, yes but giving him a nod here I think would be acknowledgin his impressive work thus far and not just solely for Half Nelson.
