Yep. I love this site. I was constantly referring to it last year....

I love the top 3 as of now, though it will change....
Eternal Sunshine, Sideways, and Before Sunset in any order is fine with me...
Sunshine ranks around #13 on my own list, Sunset #2 and Sideways around #7.

But as far as critical acclaim goes, I know those 3 will be the closest to overall my list and if they end up being the final top 3, I will be surprised and well pleased!

So far Sideways leads in #1's with 10 and Before Sunset follows with 5, while Eternal Sunshine is 1 ahead of Sideways in total mentions, 26!

I like all of the current top 10's. If any 5 out of those 10 are nominated together, that will be unbelievable. Last year we had 4 out of the top 10, including the top 3: Lost in Translation, ROTK, Mystic River, along with Master and Commander at No. 8. Seabiscuit came in at No. 16.

Two years ago, oscar nominated 3 out of the top 10: TTT at No. 5, Gangs of New York at 7, and Chicago at No. 8. However, the other two finalists are just outside the top 10: The Pianist at No. 11 and The Hours at No. 13.

Three years ago, oscar again nominated 3 out of the top 10: In the Bedroom (No. 4), FOTR (No. 6), and Moulin Rouge! (No. 9). Gosford Park is at No. 15, while the eventual winner, A Beautiful Mind, lagged at No. 18.

So in the three years tracking the critic lists, we could say that 2001 had the worst lineup, while last year is the best lineup we had out of the three, and I'd think most people would agree. Now let's look at this year. I expect 3 out of the top 10 to get nominated: Sideways, Million Dollar Baby, and The Aviator. I expect Hotel Rwanda to move up the list, and Ray will probably end up in the No. 15 to 18 range. All in all, Finding Neverland looks like the weakest one. If Eternal Sunshine had more of a chance, it could've challenged last year.

If Eternal Sunshine was released in November/December, it'd be close to a lock for a nom.

This thread just immensely raised my anticipation for Million Dollar Baby, Ray, The Aviator, Sideways, Hotel Rwanda and Finding Neverland.

It's good to see Before Sunset that high on the lists.

I saw it a few months ago, but that was a copy with bad quality. I would absolutely love to see it right now again.

Here is a quote from LatinoReview's list that expresses pretty much exactly my opinion on why Hotel Rwanda will be nominated for Best Picture over Ray:

"Don Cheadle has stepped to the front with a powerful and intelligent performance as a man who risked everything he had for complete strangers. Many are praising Jaime Foxx for his work in "Ray" but where Foxx was the one good thing about that film, Cheadle is surrounded by powerful events and a supportive cast in a non-traditional story that needed to be told."

It's interesting and nice to see that House of Flying Daggers is No. 1 on 6 lists, the third most behind Sideways and Before Sunset and tied with Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. It's getting more praise than I could ever imagined. I think in a sense, by releasing Hero two years late, Miramax did Yimou and HOFD a favor, maybe not commerically, but definitely critically.

I don't get it either :?

I have yet to find a movie like I, Robot or SAW on a critics' list, yet Torque has already appeared on some :?
