Two-hour update:

Beerfest 224, +43, B (up from B-)
How to Eat Fried Worms 160, +11, C-
Idlewild 354, +29, B
Invincible 308, +60, B+
Little Miss Sunshine 2994, 194 Friday, +29, B+

Looking bleak for Beerfest and Worms. Idlewild isn't picking up as much as expected. Invincible is very backloaded and could end the day with the highest raw number.

Theater was basically dead tonight. Invincible's crowds looked consistent with a $12-15M opening, but I guess it could always surprise. Beerfest and How to Eat Fried Worms looked almost empty, Idlewild's crowd was about the same size as Invincible.

Only sold out show I spotted was Little Miss Sunshine (yeeeehaw).

Beerfest might make just $6-7m for the weekend. Derby's screwed.

Beerfest 233, +9, B
How to Eat Fried Worms 165, +5, C-
Idlewild 372, +18, B
Invincible 339, +31, B+
Little Miss Sunshine 3007, 207 Friday, +13, B+

Beerfest could have trouble making $2m. A ratio of lower than 150 will be very surprising, and it's crawling to 300.

Are all movies doing terribly or is Yahoo just clogged?

Because if it is not clogged and the numbers keep up, I see the following:

Invincible - $3.8-$4.3 million
Beerfest - $1.5-1.8 million
Idlewild - $2.1-2.5 million
How to Eat Fried Worms - $0.9-1.1 million

Which would mean approx. weekends:

Invincible - $10.5 - 13.5 million
Beerfest - $3.7 - $4.6 million
Idlewild - $5.3-6.5 million
How to Eat Fried Worms - $2.8 - $3.8 million

Not looking so hot for anything. The number of reviews for everything may be a little low since review access was down for nearly two hours. However, even with adding some, it looks to be a sad weekend. Invincible may come close to tracking, but the other three openers appear to be duds - especially Beerfest. We may see a low ratio for Worms, but judging from the crowd reports, it's also a tank job.

The written to overall ratios seem to be normal. There should be one more big update, but it would appear that everything sucks today.

Business was horrible at my theater... I will try and recap to the best of my memory without bias rough ticket sales for the night (5pm-close);

Invincible (305 seater) - 250 tickets for the night
Beerfest (305 seater) - 75 tickets for the night
Little Miss Sunshine (405 seater) - 230 tickets for the night

--
Step Up (110 seater) - 40 tickets/night
Material Girls (205 seater) - 50 tickets/night
Accepted (205 seater) - 20 tickets/night
Superman: IMAX 3d (305 seater) - 35 tickets/night
Talladega Nights (205 seater) - 110 tickets/night
World Trade Center (110 seater) - 30 tickets/night
Snakes On a Plane (305 seater) - 25 tickets/night (ouch)
Rocky Horror Picture Show (205 seater - one show) - 40 tickets/night
Kriish (Hindi)(205 seater - one show) - 95 tickets/night

Slow, slow, slow. I work with the computers in the box office so I see these numbers, but tonight I didn't report the actual grosses to EDI... take it with a grain of salt. You might get some use out of the ratio of business between films.

I'm curious... is it a routine practice for cinemas to report ticket sales to EDI on Friday night?

Yes, at my theater we have a firm called Rentrack that calls and gets grosses every night of the week. EDI used to call but they don't anymore for whatever reason. I think they must get them from the company the next day or something cuz everyonce in awhile they will call during a day and want the grosses from the night before.

Glad to see Beerfest tanking. It looked horrible and horrible films deserve to flop. Poor Legendary Pictures though as they haven't had one hit this year.

HTEFW is DOA.

Why does everyone think this looks poor for Beerfest? I was expecting a ratio near 90.

Right now I'm thinking:
Invincible: 4.5m
Beerfest: 3.5m
Idlewild: 2.6m
HTEFW: 1.6m

Hm, ratio of 90? I don't see why it would.

Fanbase? heh

I don't think the rating makes that much of a difference. It could be 70-80 with PG-13.

I'll go with $4.5m for Invincible, $2.5m for Idlewild and Beerfest (mainly because I think it's doing very well in areas not covered in the crowd reports...), and $1.2-1.3m for How to Eat Fried Worms.

WC has one of the lowest ratios in recent years for 100m+ grossers BTW.

So why did Waiting have well over 200? Harold and Kumar over 330? Grandma's Boy over 500?

You can blame it on low theatre counts, but such a great change of pattern ain't gonna happen, I'd guess.

WC's hugely wide appeal is hardly comparable.

But that's not the point. It proves the R rating won't increase the ratio that much.
