My Super Ex-Girlfriend 307, +4, B-
Clerks II 539 +20, B+

Still looks to be like sub-$8 million for Lady.

Overall, compared to the tracking the week of the release, Poseidon did decently. Its made about 170 million WW so far. It wasnt as big a bomb as say Stealth or Island, I wouldnt even say it was a flop, rather a huge disappointment.

Man o Man, did WB have horrible Marketing this year or what.

Lector thats not the last update, its mid hour, there should be a final unclogging. I think 8.5 is attainable. Lady might be playing to a more adult crowd than we thought. Though Ill say strong at a 8.2 friday. Though I dont know what this will make on Sat and Sunday, not sure if it will be frontloaded or not.

There was no way to make a lame ass movie like Poseidon look interesting. They did what they could for a movie that had bomb written on it from the get go. This blame marketing excuse is getting tired.

It is a financial flop. It'd need $220+ million worldwide to have any chance whatsoever to eventually make the money back, given the $160 million budget.

It's weaker then The Village. It didn't have a C opening day, in fact, I'm nearly certain it was actually still a B-. Like most movies the grade dropped after that.

I'm pretty sure to remember The Village had a C+ on its opening day.

In any case, it'd need a miracle to make $10 million opening day now.

Well it looks like everything got the downside this weekend. I think it's a case of them all hurting each other, having 4 movies released in September when they're making like 7 mil is fine, releasing 4 15 mil+ and 20 mil+ movies with lots of theatres in the same weekend is stretching it. I mean, it makes sense really, instead of one or two new releases, there's four viable ones to divide the audience. And you can't get away with being the opposite demographic to the competition, because there was something for everyone this weekend. It was a pretty dumb move crowding them up like this, when there were weekends in May and June with one new release, it would've been so much smarter for Lady to open with Cars, or Monster House with the Break Up, or Super Ex on Memorial Day weekend with X3. Jeez.

Actually, I think being on a seperate weekend would've helped 3 of the releases, but Lady had too many hurdles that it would fail anywhere, heh. WB marketing claiming another victim, people being angry at the Village, no draws, it was in deep.

And Magnus, I do think that the marketing was VERY to blame for this one, much moreso than for Superman actually. They had a brainfart in determining their identity, labelling it as both a fairy tale than a horror, they failed to make it look scary, it just ended up seeming incredibly weird. The Village had bad WOM, but I think this just looked so bad, that's where the problem came in. It didn't seem like one of Shamaylan's other films, the twists and creepiness that everyone loved, it looked like a pile of turd! I consider Lady's marketing to rank among the worst of the year, easy.

With 130 that would be 9m for LitW

I'm gonna say:
Lady: 7.0 - 7.5 mil
Clerks II: 2.0 - 2.5 mil
My Super Ex-Girlfriend: 3 - 3.5 mil
Monster House - 6.5 - 7.0 mil

The TV spots sucked. I always thought it was poorly marketed. WB's ads never seem polished or slick. They don't stand out among the other stuff in a commercial break. You could watch and never notice them.

I dont think it's WB's fault that they had no idea how to market a quirky movie like Lady in the Water, so they decided to just go with a horror theme to it.

Disney used the horror theme very effectively. That wasn't the problem with WB. It was the right move, but an easy one.
