Maybe it's just horrible marketing?
Horrible premise, director (what has he done recently that was any good?), and stars (Luke is the less popular Wilson, and Uma is fugly and annoying).

Briefly looking at the Monster House number, it looks like it'll end at 7.5-9, but I'll wait for final review number.

Unless it's clogged, I definitely disagree. With a grade this bad, we usually get high ratios and especially with a flick that was blasted this much online. I don't see a ratio lower than 160-170.

It's a shame Fox focused all of its marketing this summer on X3, The Omen, and John Tucker Must Die (not counting Prada because I didn't see much of it but there may have been a lot)....Garfield 2 and this probably could've done much better with a lot more marketing.

This one is being blasted WAAAY more online than The Village with all the RT reviews and such and after The Village more people are interested in whether next Shyamalan will be top or flop.

I would say that their technique has worked with X3 doing gangbusters, The Omen breaking out (especially opening day) and Prada nearing triple digits. John Tucker Must Die looks to surprise as well next week. At least Stick It numbers should be attainable at the very least.

Village had way more hate then LitW, I think at one point it had a C. LitW looks to be close to a B- looking at the written reviews.

I agree, especially with *better* marketing because the concept sounds like they could make something funny out of it. Especially considering that John Tucker Must Die probably won't make much anyway.

More hate, but less initial curiousity about it. The Village preceding LITW raised that.

The premise isn't horrible? Reitman has actually done something worthwhile lately that I don't know about? Evolution, Six Days Seven Nights, Father's Day, and Junior were all pretty dire films.

All that doesn't mean that he can't make a good movie. The concept sounded promising to begin with and I think Thurman is a good actress (thankfully many will agree here with me). Also, let's not forget that Reitman did do Ghostbusters.

And Rob Reiner did the brilliant When Harry Met Sally but hasn't done anything worthwhile recently.

That means he'll never do anything decent?

Maybe he's lost whatever he had when he was younger. His recent track record would indicate as such. He certainly isn't Spielberg where he can rebound easily.

$8.5 million now looks as the best case scenario for Lady in the Water.
