How in the world is a 6/10 a (D-)? :-k

Not everyone goes by your grading system...

But, if you want to know, it's the school grading system for most schools.

Oh yeah, I forgot about school grading

Gawrsh - sorry to hear a lot of you guys didn't enjoy Napoleon - it is definitely a love it or hate it movie it seems. I set up my tent in the love it camp last spring, and only found it funnier on repeated viewings. The plot was nerderific!

5 out of 5.

It's on cable right now. The movie has grown on me a little bit. I'd give it a B now.

The film had no plot whatsoever but it more or less makes up for it with some great laugh-out-loud jokes. I especially liked the skit! A solid B.

An indie film for people who hate indies.

I don't hate independent film.

Wes Anderson is rolling in his grave.

I re-watched the film and have grown to hate it. Sure it's fun the first time around, but the second it's just fucking annoying.

Well, it's kind of charming. But on the other hand, for a comedy, it isn't funny.

Uhhh... that's like the point, eh - not being funny is what makes it so funny...

Maybe, but I didn't laugh at the joke.

I know I said I hated it above, but I was just trying to fit in on my first couple weeks here...

In all honestly I give it about a B. It's grown on me a lot, it's pretty funny I find. I know this movie will never die, people from my generation will be playing it for years and years.

Worst movie ever? No, but close. Definitely the worst cult movie I have ever seen. I don't even know where to begin, but I think that yoshue summed it up pretty well with: an indie movie for people who hate indies.

I have never really liked Jon Heder and after this movie, that disliked was more confirmed than ever. He is annoying. Not funny. Just annoying. Just like pretty much everyone else is in this film. Whoever thought that random off-beat stuff is funny was wrong. It was about as funny as watching a dog lick its own balls. I did laugh once I think and I think that somewhere, very very very deep under the whole crappy offbeat "humor" and quirkiness, there's something interesting in Napoleon's development.

However, it just doesn't help if you dislike every single character in the film and want to beat Napoleon's and Pedro's faces about 20 minutes into the film. It really must be the most irritating and pointless comedy I have ever seen. If there has ever been the definite case of "not my kind of humor" - then this is it. There is nothing, nothing of interest to be seen here and this 90 minutes flick felt like 3 hours because just nothing noteworthy ever happens here.

I feel the exact same way about Juno, though, for some reason, ND doesn't irritate me nearly as much as Juno does.

Yeah, I agree with this.

Juno is pretty much the quintessential faux-indie; or the indie both your Grandma can love and you can make a mix CD about.

Napoleon Dynamite may not be a lot of things, but it's certainly niche enough to be classified as "indie", whatever that means.

The number of people that one, even saw Juno, and two, loved it, at my university is gag-inducing. It's not an indie film if it plays at both the arthouse theatre and the local multiplex. And especially not if my friends who think 300 and Transformers are the pinnacle of cinema are in love with it.

I still find Napoleon Dynamite incredibly hilarious. Though it may have been just as insanely over-quoted in the months following its release, and it certainly became as popular as Juno for an "indie" film (maybe not quite as popular, but certainly in the same ballpark), but it never got any award nomination or critical recognition, and I guess that's why I don't hate it so.

I still don't get how this became so popular. Like, why? I mean, at least Juno found something resembling half a heart near the end...this just might be one of the most soulless movies I've ever seen. Ugh.

Agreed.

I don't see Juno as an indie. I just see it with a good movie. Not flawless, but pretty good.

Funny, but definitely overrated. Funny characters and a story though.

Here's another one of those rare films vying for a perfectly balanced rating scale - - here's the current, oh so symmetrical, scores:

Quote:
What's your grade?
A 16% [ 4 ]
B 20% [ 5 ]
C 25% [ 6 ]
D 20% [ 5 ]
F 16% [ 4 ]

I don't love it anywhere near as much as I did when I first saw it (in my defense, I was 14), but it's always going to be a stupid guilty pleasure.
