The audience response to this trailer last night at X3 was insane. Better than any other (yes, even Superman).

28/60, but most likely higher.

Snakes everyone went crazy..ghost rider there was 50% clapping etc...Omean people were like "cool"... my super ex girlfriend got tons of laughs...

When my super ex girlfriend gets a better reaction than superman in a "comic book geek" audience, its in trouble...

1. Superman got booed because everyone hates that Singer left X3 to do Superman, they are just jealous :nonono:

2. Snakes on a Plane got the BEST reaction I've EVER seen to a trailer. It wowed me!

So... My predict is:

Opening- $52.8 mil

Total- $99.9 mil

Everyone who wants to see this will on opening weekend... then MOST will like it and see it one more time in about a week.

I expect it to be out of theaters by week 3 ;)

40/80 seems like a good bet at this point. Legs will be absolutely horrible. Worse than FVJ and AVP.

'Snakes' sheds previews

By DAVE MCNARY

Taking the route employed by many genre films, New Line has decided to avoid any potentially buzz-killing pre-release reviews of "Snakes on a Plane."

"Snakes," which has developed a surprisingly high interest level on the Internet in the past year, will launch without press screenings prior to its first late-evening showings on Aug. 17. The pic, starring Samuel L. Jackson, will open at 2,500-plus playdates.

New Line said Monday the decision was the result of the fan support for "Snakes," directed by David Ellis.

"Understanding that they would be the driving force behind the film, we decided early on they should be the first to see it," the mini-major said. "They will have the opportunity on Thursday evening, Aug. 17, at 10 p.m. shows across the country. We are not planning any advance media or promotional screenings prior to that."

So around 2500 theaters OW.

What a stupid excuse about the no press screenings.

Notice how that's the exact same thing that AVP did two years ago (no critic screenings, midnight showings "for the fans," etc.) and that "didn't suck" for BKB.

Basically they went this route so they could have a marketing gimmick to throw out at SLJ's Comic Con appearance
on Friday.

Besides, you know that even if Joe Q Python gave a stunningly heartbreaking performance critics would still slash
and burn it.

Is anyone really surprised by this? It's a film called 'Snakes on a Plane' for goshsakes. Critics aren't really the audience for it. I knew ever since this whole thing started that it wouldn't have press screenings. There's no reason to. Either you want to see it or you don't.

Nice to know it's going to have early showings. I've got to go to one of those. It'll be like a party.

2500 theaters definately means it wont open to 30 million. While calling it a bomb is too extreme in BKB's case, he is right though that its being quite overpredicted but I still think an opening in the low 20s makes more sense and its still a hit no matter.

It says "2,500 plus", I expect around 2,700-2,800 theatres and a certain $10,000+ PTA.

Certaintly not 3000 though, I do think at this stage the buzz has alot to do with the internet as I saw the reaction for SOAP trailer that got "what the hell was that?" type giggles. Also its jump on the yahoo buzz and imdb wasnt that huge or significant. 20+ million OW sounds reasonable but definately not the insane 30 million OW

Of course it is, it's entirely about the Internet. If the level of excitement for Snakes on a Plane was representative of the world outside the internet, I think many of us would be predicting more in the 200m range.

The reality is around (at a high) 60m at this point.

I'm thinking low 20s opening for now. It's being marketed as a straight thriller, only the posters are funny. I don't think the real world is in on the joke, it's all the internet, this isn't building hype like Scary Movie I don't believe. Also, the audience for this is extremely limited, it's basically young males and the random internet dork.

So it'll do well, but 40 mil+ and 50 mil+? Nah.

:hahaha:

I agree with a low 20s for its opening. 50m total will be interesting.
