But this is absolutely amazing, this is like The Lost World beating Batman Forever. If you look at it however, each record breaker was close to 20 million higher, so this makes sense. Lost world beat Batman by 22 million/ Harry Potter beat Lost World by 18 million, Spiderman over Harry by 24 million. I have no idea what to expect for the weekend, except that it will be frontloaded, that much is dam sure. Thanks to midnight numbers, I can see it dropping around 25% today or about 14 million. Solid 40 million second day. Give it another 35% drop and were looking at another 14 million drop to 26 million. Now given this is absolute extremes, I think it will hold a little better, but even with that it will give us a new Record of 121 million. Superman is disappointing, its now only going to be around 2-3 million ahead of my pace to break 200 million. It needs to hold better, or rise rediculously on Saturday, to not hit a 55%+ This late in the summer movies don't drop 35% on Sunday. 20% at most.
I know that but this is unprecedented, and plus I said worst case scenario. I was just putting it out that Spidermans record is 99% gone.

And then I'm like...
Are these numbers really that impressive?
Sorry, yes, grrreat for Pirates, but those were just my first thoughts. Where do you live? It could partly be due to soaring property taxes. Where do you live? I haven't paid $8.50 for a movie since 1996. edit***So when are Friday numbers being released from I site I actually recognize? Who is this dougny guy?
Suburbs of Dallas. The theaters I go to are in Plano (and recently, Garland). So yeah, prices aren't going to be as high here as they are in, say, New York City, but at this rate, they're getting there.

Cool! Well, I actually live in Richardson (and I actually don't go to the Cinemark Legacy in Plano as often as I used to because a closer AMC opened), but yeah. Plano was the destination for a long time, and it still has the Angelika, which I frequent.
Whereabouts did you live?

Absolutely freaking fantastic, amazing, and mind-boggling huge for Pirates 2. Enough adjectives for you?
It's so great to have a movie that is finally going to be beat Spidey's record of 4 years.

You know whats good about POTC2 being the last big blockbuster of the year - our expectations will be low for the rest of the year! So we hopefully will get a surprise or two.

It's funny that, up until November, we never even had a Friday over $40 m! In just 8 months, we had the Friday record go from $39,406,872 (Spiderman 1), to $40,118,363 (HP4), to $45,102,265 (Xmen 3), to $55,500,000 (POTC 2). So its 41% higher than just 8 months ago.

I'll admit, I was wrong. Nothing prepared me for this.
If this can stay above $50 million on Saturday as well, as Yahoo is telling us, then I'll be even more amazed.

Yeah, unfortunately that was the 1st thing that came to mind and I However, POTC 2 Friday Opening is Staggering in Monumental Proportions that will raise the bar for SONY and SPIDERMAN III to kick it into high gear next May 7th, 2007 to try their best to outdo this opening.. I think SM3 can do it if it really looks THAT good like early indications seem to point to.. Will see.. In the meantime, I wonder if Singer's on Suicide watch??
