Did anybody catch the premiere last night in Disneyland? It was the longest red carpet in history clocking in at over two miles that led directy to the new POTC theme ride where all the celebs had to ride it. It was the biggest premiere for the biggest movie of the year.

The premiere was actually Saturday night. I watched the 2.5 hour live webcast they had going on MSN. It was lots of fun. It was originally scheduled for 1.5 hours, but they refused to cut things off before Johnny and Orlando made it to them for an interview. That was quite nice of them.
Looking at the pictures at places like WireImage and Getty, it definitely WAS the biggest premiere, probably of all time. And they sure had some really cool entertainers there, like people on stilts and a guy with a real parrot.
Man, what I would've given to have been there for that premiere.

David Poland's review sounded very good. Look like this is going to another fun, repeatedly viewed film. I'm upping my predictions to 127/410.

Honestly this year has been the worst for movies in a long time. I can only hope it gets better next year.

Wow, I don't think this is going to to breaking the opening weekend record or anything. Maybe $100 million, but I doubt it will go any higher.

It is clear that Pirates has a big fanbase (although I think it isn't near Star Wars and LotR). That already guarantees it a huge weekend ($80M+). But I don't think it will break the opening weekend record. It is opening in July, a month where films open not as well as in May and November. It also isn't the first big film in a while, unlike Shrek 2, Sith, and Spidey 1; people are just getting over the X-Men and DaVinci Code craze and there's a big film opening 9 days before PotC2 (sure, not as big, but big anyway). The film is also an adventure comedy; there will be less of a rush-out factor to it than with Matrix Reloaded and Sith. What I mean is: people won't got to it to see a story that couldn't wait to see, they,ll go see it simply to have a good time. Of course that doesn't apply to the fanbase, but you don't pass $120M in 3 days with just your fanbase.
Another argument, though a very weak one, could be that Orlando Bloom is a lot less popular now than in 2003.

POTC I had $70.6 m worth of tickets sold in its first 5 days, this time, I think that the bare minimum is that the people who rushed to see it in its first 5 days will see the sequel in its first three days. Thus I see the bare minimum for POTC II to be the adjusted 5day gross of the first one, about $77.2 m. But of course, it was enormously well received, and as shown by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory's run, Depp is still very much in demand. That film did $56 m, when Depp's previous biggest opening ever outside of POTC I was Sleepy Hollow's $30 m. Thus, the Depp fans have shown how committed they are, and Charlie almost acted like a mini POTC I sequel/follow up, thus the real sequel should do huge as well. Charlie did $213 m adjusted for inflation, and POTC I is at close to $334 m or so, thus, it isn't too unexpected that this film could do $100 m + opening weekend, and do $300 m + overall (I see $400 m +).

What do you mean? If you're talking about leg-wise, welcome to 2006, the year of the frontload.

Here's a pre-review of DMC from Emanuel Levy... and it's rather positive:

I've seen more ads for this in the last week than I have any time before.
This is going to be BIG.

Once again, it doesn't matter if a film jumps on Moviefone for a day. If a film like Pirates gets on Moviefone today and actually stays on until the release date, that's fantastic.

I meanin quality or types of movies. There is nothing this year that I really look forward too. And if SR and PoTC2 are the best this summer has to offer than to me it is one of the worst years in a long time.

I agree. By the end of the year, I'll have seen the lowest total movies in the theaters in a very very long time. I may actually only see 5 movies in the theaters this year. That is low, even for me.

The DMC MySpace now has downloads up for 3-minute samples of five different remixes of the PotC music:
http://www.myspace.com/deadmanschest
Personally, I'm finding I can't get enough of the Pelo Verde Remix. I was also REALLY getting into the Chriss Joss remix when it cut off at the 3:02 mark (all of them cut off at that mark).... I can't wait to hear the rest. I'm also really liking the Jolly Roger remix--instead of using the regular orchestral music mixed with new beats, it completely synthesizes the music and it sounds awesome (and the Davy Jones soundbytes are really eerie, too).

Here's a good link to keep up on in terms of reviews being posted... It's a thread from Keep to the Code, the official PotC fansite, and we're trying to keep all reviews in one thread and post them as soon as we find them... So far the only real complaints from reviewers have been issues with the length, but they did that with the first movie, too.
Oh, and according to Verbinski, DMC's only 6 minutes longer than CotBP, so if people managed to get past the length of CotBP and make it a box-office success, the length won't hinder DMC either.

I saw a really great new TV spot for DMC last night... saw it three times in the span of an hour and a half--twice on a local station that's tied to our NBC affiliate, and then on NBC during Last Comic Standing. I've been seeing DMC spots on Fox, too.
It's really rollin' now! Whee!

How interesting. It seems that PotC1's three-year-old WOM is actually stronger than Superman's half-day-old WOM.
I must give massive props to Johnny Depp.
