I'm still anxiously awaiting Moriarty's review... He mentioned the other day he was going to yesterday's PotC screening.

Orlando Bloom's on Leno tonight. Leno probably was there yesterday, too. I wonder if we'll get a new movie clip, or if they'll play the eunuchy one that was played on MTV.... Disney doesn't seem to be as giving as WB when it comes to volume of movie clips. Whereas WB will release some 11-odd video clips from a movie, Disney so far for PotC has only released one actual clip.

Which I don't mind, really. The less we see beforehand, the more surprise we get in the theater.

POTC hardly compares to something like Lord of the Rings in terms of "length equals better."

Wow I didnt even notice the length of the movie, I think I will lower my predictions a bit although I think people would rather spend their 2hr30mins watching POTC2 than they would for SR during the weekdays since POTC seems like it goes at a much much faster pace than SR

Pirates is a no-depth popcorn flick. There's no comparison.

...in the same way people think Bad Boys does. They're popcorn flicks that are wafer-thin. Fun to sit through with entertaining characters, but no real depth to speak of.

Well, I'd argue that "no real depth" comment, but I just woke up and don't have my mind fully functional at the moment to be discussing such intricate subjects.

Just thought I'd let ya'll know about the official site for the soundtrack; they've got sound clips there, too, and some are different excerpts than the Soundtrack.net review:

I must be the only guy predicting insane numbers for this movie that isn't a fan. Depp made the movie decent, but come on, folks, it's a barely-above-average popcorn flick. It succeeds in what it aims for, but not triumphantly.

Anyway, 145/435.

I'd continue arguing, BJ, but you gave Serenity an A+ and called it the best film of 2005. So I'll let this slide ;)

Dark Shape, please tell me who that is in your avatar.

Meanwhile, the length could be a problem. It will certainly affect opening weekend. And length is a double-edge sword. 2:15 is about right for a movie (if it's good); longer than that and you better earn those extra minutes.

Around 2:30 you start hitting bladder thresholds too, so Verbinski better watch out.

It's a drawing of Nathan Fillion as Mal Reynolds, from Firefly/Serenity.

Here’s the latest summer movie tracking news: I’m told Sony’s Click will become No. 1 at the box office and hit the so-called “Adam Sandler sweet spot” of at least $40-$45 mil its opening weekend. The bigger news I’ve learned is that Pirates of the Caribbean 2 (opening July 7th) now has the highest combination of “definite interest” and “first choice” ever tracked by the research groups. That backs up my previous reporting that this Disney blockbuster is gonna blow everything else out of the water. (See Pirates 2 Biggest Opening Ever) But the biggest news I’ve got is that Superman Returns is gaining strength in all quadrants. (For weeks, Warner Bros. execs have been covered in flop sweat.) Remember I told you previously that Superman Returns was not tracking well enough to rival X-Men 3’s big box office opening? Since then, wanna-see has picked up considerably among men of all ages. Still, the Wednesday (June 28th) opening makes its Fourth of July holiday weekend total tough to call. Spiderman 2 opened on the Wednesday before July 4th and did $40 mil that first day and went on to make $88 mil Friday-Saturday-Sunday for a cume of $192 mil Wednesday-through-Tuesday. The experts tell me that’s probably an unreachable goal for Superman Returns, but the movie should haul in about 2/3 of that. Spiderman 2 ended up taking in $370 mil, so Superman Returns has to do at least $250 mil to avoid humiliation. (Especially considering the film’s production budget was at least $210 mil, though insiders tell me it’s probably sped past $250 mil by now.) The other movie opening that weekend, Fox’s The Devil Wears Prada (June 30th) is tracking well with older females.
