That backs up my previous reporting that this Disney blockbuster is gonna blow everything else out of the water. (See Pirates 2 Biggest Opening Ever) But the biggest news I’ve got is that Superman Returns is gaining strength in all quadrants. (For weeks, Warner Bros. execs have been covered in flop sweat.) Remember I told you previously that Superman Returns was not tracking well enough to rival X-Men 3’s big box office opening? Since then, wanna-see has picked up considerably among men of all ages. Still, the Wednesday (June 28th) opening makes its Fourth of July holiday weekend total tough to call. Spiderman 2 opened on the Wednesday before July 4th and did $40 mil that first day and went on to make $88 mil Friday-Saturday-Sunday for a cume of $192 mil Wednesday-through-Tuesday. The experts tell me that’s probably an unreachable goal for Superman Returns, but the movie should haul in about 2/3 of that. Spiderman 2 ended up taking in $370 mil, so Superman Returns has to do at least $250 mil to avoid humiliation. (Especially considering the film’s production budget was at least $210 mil, though insiders tell me it’s probably sped past $250 mil by now.) The other movie opening that weekend, Fox’s The Devil Wears Prada (June 30th) is tracking well with older females. http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/l ... -strength/Awesomeness.
 Oh my God!
$140 million OW here we come!!!

If only Pirates were made like LotR, we'd like it better....
Well anyway, LotR is more serious than Pirates, but they had a sort of similar style -- hard to explain. A LOT of us LotR loonies became instant Pirates fans.

Yeah, I've noticed quite a bit of fandom crossover between LOTR, PotC, and Harry Potter. All my friends who liked LOTR like the other two... those who liked PotC like the other two... etc.
Well, the Disneyland premiere of PotC2 is tonight. There will be a 90-minute webcast covering the premiere events. You'll be able to watch it here:
http://movies.msn.com/movies/pirates_webcast
It starts at 7pm Pacific and goes to 8:30pm Pacific. (8-9:30pm Mountain, 9-10:30pm Central, 10-11:30pm Eastern)
Orlando Bloom was on Leno last night, and it was hilarious. Leno brought out the 7" Will Turner sword-action figure from Zizzle.... the one that you have to squeeze the legs to make the sword move.... Yeah, lotsa fun with that.
The clip from the movie was an edited-down clip that happens just before the clip that was shown on MTV.... Some *awesome* cinematography.

to me, thats like saying he enjoys gus van sant's version of psycho more than hitchcock's....theres no competition between pirates 1 and all of the lotr movies.

Pirates of the Caribbean:COTBP ranks above LOTR: TTT in yahoo movies. I'm not saying that Pirates is better than LOTR, because it's not, IMO. But saying that there is no competition between the two is simply not true.

and you're point is? yahoo movies doesnt quite accurately portray the general public and their fervor for movies. hell, i dont think anything would. thats why i said "to me, i think hes wrong and hes lost all credibility."
note i did not say that i was universally right for everyone, but for me, im right.

BJ, I'm glad you think Pirates is better than LOTRs.
Captain Muha, congrats on your opinion, too.
It's as simple as that.

And it has begun:
WireImage Pics of Premiere
Getty Images Pics of Premiere (larger than WireImage and don't require account to see watermarked pics)
Reports from Zoners (members of Johnny Depp Zone) tell us that line waits at the rides are no more than 10-minutes.... Guess just about everyone's lining that red carpet.
Can't wait for the webcast! And I believe it's either tomorrow or Monday that E! will be showing a 30-minute pre-recorded show of the premiere.

It's the epic-quality attention to detail and nice cinematic techniques (editing, cinematography, score) which push Pirates into a different realm.

Well, it was fun. They even went into "overtime" 'cause Johnny and Orlando took so long coming down that big-arse red carpet (apparently the longest red carpet in history). But, hey, that's all good, 'cause some fellow Depp fans on a few boards I frequent got to meet and get autographs from Johnny, so 's'all good.
I had fun watching the clips they showed of Johnny meeting the Jack animatronic on the PotC ride. And I say "meeting" because that damned thing is so lifelike, it really was like seeing two real people meeting each other. Frakkin' brilliant.
I took screencaps, so I'll post a link to my Photobucket when I get all the caps cropped and uploaded.
Just two more weeks, ya'll! WAHOO!
EDIT: Here are some cute pics of Johnny meeting the Jack animatronic:
