I hope SEE NO EVIL does at least 4 Million this weekend. It looks to be the best movie that opened this weekend :p, and I've heard it kicks ass and is extremely gory. DA VINCI seems like a major bore. I didn't even think it looked good from the trailer, but was going to see it on DVD because of the hype. However since it's 2 and a half hours long and supposed to be all talk and no action I'll pass. It sounds boring as hell and the cast is nothing special. I've never been a big fan of Tom and Audrey I can't stand.

i AGREE SOME films are to long even though they may be short, but if you make it to short you fell like if nothing happened. Thats how i felt with hp3.

Yes, like Poseiden. WOM for Poseiden is actually quite positive. It's just not many people have actually seen it.

EVERY show starting with 515 sold out... Davinci was on our 5 biggest theatres... I even interlocked 3 of them...hell all the midnights even sold out.... and we sold out all of our times up till 1045 by 730 pm !!!!

Great to see some amazing business today....theater hasn't been this busy since Christmas. Looks like M:i:III and Poseidon benefited from the DVC sellouts. It'll be even busier tomorrow for sure.

See No Evil (8:15/75% full in 200 seater) is very generic but not terrible either. Da Vinci (5:30/SOLD OUT in 450 seater) is slow-moving but also not as bad as critics would have you believe. It's a little like, as someone else said, National Treasure for adults. Paul Bettany's character is crazy and McKellan does a decent job as well.

Yep, two more 11:15pm shows are sold out for Da Vinci. Only the midnight and one 12:30am are left. Van Ness has completed sold out, and Bay Street has two shows left. It even sold out at least a couple of shows (I only just checked, so not sure exactly how many) at the 25-theater Century Union City, where it has a show every 30-35 minutes. I can't recall I've ever seen that (didn't track these theaters for Sith and HP4).

It was about 95% full, but they had 7, 7:30, and 8 shows, so its understandable that it didn't quite sell out. Still really good though, as it was the largest screen in the theater. The best trailer reaction was for Click and 2nd was Casino Royale. But Click's response wasn't even close to any of the others. The audience ate it up. Also there were alot of families there too, which I thought there would be less of, but it seems like everyone was seeing it today.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. I mean, I think it did a pretty solid job at adapting the book, which is not exactly the most amazing work of literature ever created. The first hour of the film drags painfully, but things get going once Ian McKellen shows up on the scene. Interestingly, I enjoyed the "talky" portions of the movie much more than those of the generic action scenes. Some things brought up truly are fascinating (I would have liked to hear more of Langdon's "symbol" lecture shown at the beginning). Tom Hanks is good as Langdon, but this is as close as he has come to "phoning it in" in a while; the script doesn't really allow for much character development. The same goes for Audrey Tautou's Sophie, who does the best she can with weak dialogue and characterization. Ian McKellen steals the show in his supporting role. Overall, I can't say I had as much fun at The Da Vinci Code as I did with even a movie like National Treasure (which I actually really enjoyed), but I was pleased by the film. B

Da Vinci Code, I noticed, was literally playing on every single screen (that'd be about 10) on the bottom floor of this 22-screen theater and was sold out for basically every show. $30M is guranteed, it could get all the way up to $35M, imo.

MI3 looked to be benefitting quite a bit, I saw a good 2 or 3 sellouts. Poseidon and See No Evil had none. However, Over the Hedge was sold out twice on 250-seat theaters, which looked about on par with how Madagascar did here opening day.

Whew, what a sigh of relief.

BTW, how about those questions.

Libs, you live in a fairly liberal area, so wouldn't you think that the movie would probably do better business there? (And it's obviously a busy theatre since a lot of movies sell out there on a regular basis) I think that it will be evened out by theatres in the heartland and single-screen theatres that limit the number of showings... Sure, I could be wrong, but $30-35 million seems a bit exorbitant.

The only times I've seen more business at this theater were Spider-Man and the Harry Potter movies. That's it. I'm just feeling 30.

I went at 3:15 PM since I surprisingly was free pretty early and had enough time before work.
400+ theater
About 50% full; it was no five screens, and the smaller ones were 80%. The last time I saw that many people so early was Reloaded. The parking lot was as full as a Sat night. The audience was mostly made up of seniors. I would guess though that night saw a rush of the 20-50 demographic. The audiences for the time of the day was about 10 times as large as movies like Underworld. Compared to average it would mean about 100m opening day. However, this theater tends to skew older from what I can tell. I almost never go early Friday for an adult skewing movie. Out of Time is the only one I can think of, but that was after 5 PM. It seemed to be doing about 4 or 5 times as well as that one was 2 hours later, for what it's worth.

Miami Vice - It occured to me while watching this that it's just a really boring trailer. I don't doubt that I'll probably love the movie, but I really worry about the BO.

Movie - I'm really disappointed. I'm just pissed. Whatever worked in the movie was thanks to McKellen and the book. Otherwise I felt it was generally incompetent. The entirely movie I was thinking about what they should have done. Howard and Hanks just......ughhh. I felt like walking out until McKellen arrived and while it improved after that, it was nothing like my expectations. 4.3/10; C-

The audience broke into applause after the movie, which shocked the hell out of me. The only two times I’ve seen more applause was for BB and POTC, but both of those were midnight screenings for beloved films. Perhaps it was only part of the audience, but I don’t know what to make of it. I suppose it might have good WOM, but only on the coattails of the book. I really want to know the cinemascore.

I suspect BTW that people who have not read the book will enjoy it more.

You're right, I didn't. I thought both the first and second were extremely boring (though the last half hour of the first was interesting) and they went in one ear and out the other. I didn't even bother to see the third. I figured there was no point since I would just be bored anyway.

Movie
The critics were kinda right about the "dullness," though that only lasted for the first hour of the film. Having read the book just this past month, I couldn't help but get easily distracted during the one hour (especially by the guy sitting next to me who fell asleep and bald guy scratching his head in front of me...). Once Langdon and Sophie reach Teabing's home, though, the film got exciting and entertaining. I wasn't too impressed with Tom Hanks, though I wouldn't call him (or any of the actors) bad in this film. Obviously, the critics were also right about Ian McKellen; he was fantastic as Teabing. Jean Reno was okay, but kinda wasted. But, the film is pretty fun after the first hour 'till the end. It's a solid adaptation of the novel and a good film, though it didn't blow me out of the water (but, then again, I've never seen a Ron Howard film that actually accomplished that). B

Film: First, I know this is a work of fiction so in no way did it come close to affecting my faith which is the reason others are protesting the film. I did not read the davinci code so this was my first taste of this adaptation and I very much enjoyed it. I was leary about seeing it tonight after hearing the mixed reviews but I decided to see what the fuss was about. I liked the plot of the film and the detail that was put into it. I appreciated the "step by step" approach with the film and I think that's the only way you could do the book justice is with that approach. I enjoyed the story and the acting was good for me. I loved Audrey Tatou and Tom hanks wasn't annoying or boring. Also, I didn't really find any of the lines hokey at all. Another part of the film that I enjoyed was the flash back sequences showing historic periods and the thinking going on in Hank's head. I also enjoyed the score to the film as well. Finally, since I haven't read the book I don't know how it actually compares to it as in what details were left out and what was changed so that would be nice to learn from other posters who've read it.

Grade: A

Wait wait, the big question on my mind is how packed BKB's theatre parking lot was this Friday.
