Dude, get over it. The people associated with Thanksgiving (Pilgrims) came to this land to escape religious persecution and lived peaceably with their Native neighbors. That SHOULD be celebrated. No need for guilt.
It was later immigrants who came for profit that decided they needed to kill all the natives.

As for me, my new wife and I are hosting 15 people for Thanksgiving - get out the card tables and folding chairs!

It's close to Roanoke in the Southern portion, probably a good 150 or so miles from D.C. I think it's the largest lake in Virgina.

I go up to visit my family in Boston, but when I lived there I always went down to annual National Day of Mourning at Plymouth Rock, and later would come home and have a nice meal with my family. I'll be doing the same thing this year.

When I was in London...man, I thought they must be insane with their prices. It was a really hot day and heck, I was thirsty. So I wanted to get a can of Coke and that was somewhere around the St. Paul Cathedral...

So I see a guy selling beverages and ask him how much a 0.33 l Coke costs and he says "2 pounds" which is around $4. *shakes head*

Of course, when I heard that I wasn't thirsty anymore.

Most of England is like that. Anyway, I visited Buckingham Palace, outside there was drink vendor, charging £1.80 for a 450ml of water thats about $3.50

How much of England have you seen? London's notoriously expensive yes, but here in Manchester I've yet to find anywhere that sells cans of coke for more than 60 pence.

The Pilgrims were no friends to the Indians. They were engaged in a war of extermination and territory against them while they were pretending to be their friends. Just days before the Thanksgiving love fest your history books tell you about, a group of Pilgrims led by Myles Standish tried to chop off the head of a local chief. They deliberately caused a fight between two friendly Indians in an attempt to get "better intelligence and make them both more diligent." An 11-foot-high wall was built around the entire Pilgrim's settlement for the sole purpose of keeping the Indians out. Any Indian who came within the vicinity of the Pilgrim settlement was subject to robbery, enslavement, or murder. Myles Standish (a "Pilgrim") went to the Indians pretending to be a trader and then beheaded an Indian man named Wituwamat. He brought the head to Plymouth where he stuck it on a wooden spike. According to Gary B. Nash, this was done "as a symbol of white power." Standish later had the Indian man's young brother hanged from the rafters on top of this. So, as you can see, your Pilgrims were hardly the peaceful folk you'd like to believe.

As for my Thanksgiving plans, i'm kind of in the same boat as Dolce, and damn do I feel like a hypocrite. I'm not going to "celebrate" Thanksgiving, but my sister is making a huge vegeterian meal, so I have to go.
