Exactly. And really, I can't think of anyone out there that seems like a better fit for Ralph Kramden then Cedric the Entertainer, he fits the role perfectly. Kudos to the casting department, even if the movie itself looks mediocre.

Get a clue will ya.. If this was something to automatically go against the grain with me on cause you despise me or something then that's fine, but the facts are the facts and the fact IS, is that The Honeymooners is a Golden Age show that never should've been made and iof so, then the memory of the great Jackie Gleason should've been respected and not reduced to just another lame Urban movie.. Sorry Libs, but I think the majority of moviegoers and Baby Boomers who grew up watching this show would agree with me.. It is an insult to make this movie with an Urban Cast just like it would be to make "The Jefferson's into a movie using a white cast.. Stop with the politically correct garbage and see it for what it is and what I'm saying which is true..

BKB I thought of a good comparison, how would people react to a black I Love Lucy?

I had predicted it too.
And as for The Honeymooners, who cares if it's done again with an African American cast? Get over it people! I'd love to see gay versions of a lot of movies, like Dangerous Liasons and others. Because even though I can still enjoy movies with heterosexual characters, African Americans can still enjoy movies with a white cast, white people can enjoy movies with an African American cast, etc... it's still nice to see a movie that specifically pertains to you and you can possibly relate to.

I think the movie looks terrible and is completely unnecessary, I just don't see why people are getting *so* uptight about it. Goodness.

Been lurking around here for a little while, but I feel the need to respond here. "The Jeffersons" was a show ABOUT race. The whole premise of the show was built around race. A show about a white couple "movin' on up to the east side" wouldn't mean anything because that's what the east side was...white. The show was about race relations, (Note the mixed race neighbors, etc...). On the other hand, "The Honeymooners" was about a lower-middle class working man (a bus driver), living in the city (i.e., urban) and his everyday life. Race had nothing to do with it. If you can't see the difference, well I feel sorry you.
I can understand someone saying it is an insult that "The Honeymooners" is being remade at all. But that's not what you said. I'd venture a guess that there are a large number of inner city African-american bus drivers nowadays, so by making the movie in the modern day, it probably makes sense that Ralph be one. Either way, it shouldn't matter because the show had nothing to do with race. Gleason was a big, funny guy doing a comedy about a big city busdriver, his wife and their neigbors. Cedric is a big, funny guy doing a comedy about a big city busdriver, his wife and their neighbors. You can question the decison to make the movie. You can question the decison to stage it in modern day, but there is no reason to question the skin color of the leads.

For a better question for the Honeymooners remake:
Why did they remake it at all?

Anyone notice that the commercials for High Tension have really picked up this week? I'm seeing it non-stop.
Still won't make more than $5 million, but just interesting...

Lee's Early Predictions:
1 Mr. and Mrs. Smith $24.288
2 Madagascar $16.313
3 Revenge of the Sith $15.353
4 Longest Yard $14.490
5 Cinderella Man $13.501
6 Shark Boy & Lava Girl $8.231
7 The Honeymooners $6.275
* High Tension $3.4
He is predicting one depressing weekend. I seriously doubt 4 openers will gross only 42M combined.

That would be an extremely poor weekend. At the height of the summer it tends to range from 60m-100m.

Lee is usually conservative, exact opposite of BOP. I still like to read BOG and WW's articles the most.

Lots of low predictions for Shark Boy and Lava Girl. I'm starting to think it might not do that well.

Well...
It's only one theater in most locations. Also, I have yet to see a *single* advertisement.
In fact, I haven't seen a single ad for The Honeymooners, either. Odd.

It's the opposite for me. I don't even watch the children's channels (Nick, Disney, etc.) and I still see non-stop ads for Shark Boy and Lava Girl. I've also seen a ton of The Honeymooners ads.

Mainly due to the fact that High Tension is really going to have to work for its audience. I'd be there Friday but 1) I ruined the ending for myself and 2) I won't have time... sad.

Least Honeymooners is getting great reviews.
Here's some quotes
"I’ve seen lots of horrible movies this year. I can’t imagine them getting any worse than this. "
"The Honeymooners is the worst film of this year."
"So...why remake this, again?"

Yeah, all four openers have actually been getting a LOT of tv spots, and I'm also already seeing tons for Batman Begins, War of the Worlds, and even some Land of the Dead. I really don't think Lion's Gate is doing a very good job with High Tension though. They're making it look like Ripley 5 more then a serial killer horror flick.

And I bet if Gleason were alive he could care less about them doing an African-American remake of THE HONEYMOONERS so why should you or anyone else BKB?
As for TV spots for this weekend's new openers, I've seen a few for THE HONEYMOONERS, I think only two for SMITH, a ton for HIGH TENSION, and a shitload for SHARK BOY, which I've seen the most advertisements for.
