 Re: SW7 Monday predictions
It's fuckin' nuts if this sells more admissions than ESB/ROTJ/TPM.

I mean, we're always talking about "oh, if everyone that saw the first movies comes to see this, and then it adds the new fans, it'll be bigger than ever!" for so many of these reboots, and they very rarely work out. This is the rare case where I think it is. Hell, even my mom, who hasn't been to the theater for a blockbuster since The Phantom Menace, came to see this tonight. And she loved it!

 Re: SW7 Monday predictions
Yeah if these numbers keep chugging along at this pace our first $1b movie is happening. Unless it starts showing any signs of frontloadedness by next week this looks to be on the path of $1b.

I don't think it misses $50M on Friday now, not if Monday is over $40M.

"You think the movie in question will fall somewhere between the leggiest recent blockbuster and the most front loaded. Please, share more of your pearls of wisdom Grandpa Obvious." Assuming I ever had it in the first place, which is probably a self delusion, I am starting to feel like an over the hill journeyman who can no longer hit the fastball. When I was compiling info on a movie like Avatar in the past, I would compare the amount of showtimes, sell-outs, and speed of sell-outs. As sell-outs started to evaporate over the weeks, I would compare retention of showings from the previous weekend. Avatar's audience retention level for 3D showings was significantly higher than for its 2d ones. SWTFA is showing a similar pattern in IMAX and non 3D showings (outstanding retention). 3D showings have dropped much faster over the past 2 days. I am going to wait for the Monday actual to be reported before getting myself some more rope.

Yeah, it's aiming for the IV's admissions from its initial run. Let's see how close it can get.

It'd be a 25% increase from Monday, whereas Avatar was up 41%. Though, Star Wars will clearly not benefit on Wednesday like Avatar did due to Alvin. But on the other hand, we know Friday had the third highest presales, so I'd bet people see it as more of a event to see on Christmas than they did for Avatar.
