Dear God. This is guaranteed a $250+ million OW then? And a $900+ million total I suppose. Dear God.

I have to think Disney is considering moving episode 8 to December now. Avatar should be considered no threat at this point.

HOLY SHIT.

but... I thought people were busy shopping? I thought the below-25 demo won't watch Star Wars? but it can't make this much in December, right?

Disney are fools if they release this in the summer and so close to GOTG2.

If you release it in May you can put it out on the 40th anniversary of the original STAR WARS. EVEN MORE MONEY.

You can still use the 40th Anniversary angle in December. Worked wonders for Skyfall's 50th in November, where Dr. No opened in May.

THR sees $130m+ as well, plus:

$4.5m-$6m Sisters
$4m-6m Alvin 4

that seems decent for both considering the mammoth SW is.

That's how Wonder Woman will feel when her movie can't even open within 50 million of SW first day.

Way better numbers than tracking suggested. I wonder if that bodes well for the Christmas films? Star Wars business driving the overall BO for all films like Avatar did,

Star wars puts all franchises to shame in popularity.

I will remain calm, but is this already past 100 million today?

RTH addresses this fear of mine over at the BO forum:

Some context that 43mil with THR is for starters only a sample of theatres(just over 50%) so 100% of thrs figure is much higher :) also it includes presales for the rest of day from that sample of theatres as well and its from around 1pm PST(btw that also only includes EC till 1pm, what EC has done thru 4pm different figure) . The figure for what its made up of is in the stratosphere nothing has ever come near a number like that (more than double closest)

So after picked myself of floor multiple times few hours ago and then trying to make heads and tales of what it was going to do. $125-130m was low end the number DL had high end 145 or something will see. The thing to watch is with the amount of presales could see evening numbers slow down some what )

I think we are looking at something like this #. I am really rusty and I have not been sampling theaters since reserved seating became the norm, but the tickets in the evening are not selling at all. 7-10 pm shows have been 90-95% since the afternoon. I think Tysons AMC has sold 10-15 tickets for the post 5 pm show since 4:30. Is this the new normal for blockbusters, not actually selling out?

With reserved seating shows expanding, people just buy tickets well in advance.

Why pay premium for the show and sit in the front if you can go to another one tomorrow or go to a 2D or3D show instead

I think the 145 number was to absurd.

Think it will end around 115-120 in the end.

I assumed some of that was what people are doing, but some of the post midnight shows have only sold 4-5 tickets, which seems abnormal even for the new normal. I will check in on those shows later and see if they pick up.

So this just shat on any December impacting BO concerns. Though this is kind of a special case. I've never seen a film so talked about in daily life over the last week as this one has. Unprecedented. And from that alone you can see this smashing Avatar for No.1 of all time.

Soooo awesome. Couldn't be happier. Looks like those 600m before year end predictions were spot on.

And this now certainly guarantees 11b for the year and hopefully more like 11.2b.
