I'd say that's a good thing for getting the Oscar nod.

I don't think it matters either way.

I just don't see him winning he isn't Tom Hanks who was the last one to do it. I think Fassabender or Leo wins.

I think Depp is actually the current front runner and has a great chance to win, given Black Mass is as good as it looks. He's been nominated three times and not won, so he is pretty due just like Leo.

I also don't think this will be Leo's year either. Something about The Revenant just does not feel like it will win acting Oscars.

If anyone is ever going to win consecutive Oscars again, though, this is totally the role for Redmayne.

Eh, I think Redmayne won't win simply because they won't give him his second Oscar.

It seems similar to 2001 when, by all accounts, Russell Crowe was a favorite and had the perfect role in the perfect Oscar movie (A Beautiful Mind), but he simply wasn't going to win two back-to-back.

That is a ridiculous statement. Obviously from 2003-2008, the Academy was very fond of Depp. Just because he's had a rough few years does not mean he can't rebound.

Don't be so naïve. The Academy have a reputation to uphold. Depp ain't going to win because he comes with more baggage than one good performance can shake off. But a nomination is good enough at this stage of his career.

But you said he wouldn't be nominated.

Depp has good-to-great reviews right now. I would say he's a definite contender for a nomination, but not the win.

I'm shocked to see Leo so high on everyone's lists. His role in The Revenant does not seem like a meaty Oscar winning one at all.

He's arguably the most popular (and overdue) actor in Hollywood in a physically challenging role in a film by the director whose film just won Best Picture and Director last year. I think a nomination is almost certain. Granted, I don't think he's going to win right now, but I wouldn't bet against it either.

I agree with Lectar Redmayne won't win. They aren't going to give him two straight Oscars.

Is there any black actor to bring out the guilt vote? I don't think there is.
Fassbender is respected but he'll just have to be happy with a nomination if it comes.
Depp should just be happy to be nominated after turning out so many clunkers.

Why couldn't Fassbender win? He's had a nomination, its not like he's a newbie.

Bryan Cranston is getting raves in Toronto for Trumbo.

He cuold very well sneak in.

If Black Mass does break out big this weekend, it would guarantee Depp a nomination, IMO. And if Fassbender disappoints, I could see him winning.
