If SW7 dies it that could be because it does $600m+ domestically and not because it will get $1b OS...
$1b OS is extremely rare still

1. Fan boys
They say it will reach $1.5b, $2b, $55b...whatever...and if it doesn't reach that, it doesn't matter as they'll never say that anything Star Wars-related is a disappointment.
2. The rest of us
We are realistic and don't predict over $1.3b for it, so if it reaches $1.3b, there's no way it can be a disappointment. If anything, it will be a surprise.
There are no more people on this planet. I accounted for everyone.

However, with schedule changes and the fact that half of the $1.1 B+ movies since Avatar were surprise drastic overperformers, looking at most likely mega tentpoles only has a half chance of being correct. We've seen surprise $1 B movies most years lately so only speaking about SW's chances for instance only accounts for half of the likelihood anyhow...

I believe F7's overperformance have increased people's expectations on other movies when we are clearly seeing AoU barely reaching this mark and not even breaking $1b OS which it should have...had the movie been any good.

Shit happens but really for these things you can't say the predicted shit happens. Most people here are so confident that SW will have a cake walk in OS. I don't think it will do bad but $800m+ OS is not bad by any means only 10 movies have reached this mark so far and except for HP8 every movie was a surprise (I also considered TF4 as surprise because it was just so huge in China). This club could fail but we won't see that happening few days before it happens.

But purely based on statistics and the increased availability surrounding the growing middle class, it's obvious that shitloads more Chinese are watching American movies than in the past, especially at the theatre but also in general. With that comes a new wave of audience members - the same kind of people who'd have the reaction to the original Jurassic Park that we had. A perfect example of the effect I'm talking about is the Titanic re-release, which grossed more in China than everywhere else combined, even though they'd had access to it on DVD for 15+ years. It's ALL about access. Before, they watched Titanic on DVD (actually, it is VCD) or in video stores or on TV, now it's cinema...because there are thousands more cinemas that there were in 1998.
