Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
I could see this doing anything from $350 million all the way to $700 million.
Let's go with $500 million.

It won't top $1 billion overseas. Unless China.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
1975- Spielberg- Jaws 1977- Lucas- Star Wars 1982- Spielberg- ET 1993- Spielberg- Jurassic Park 1997- Cameron- Titanic 2009- Cameron- Avatar 2015- Abrams- Star Wars: The Box-Office Awakens
3 friends of mine texted me today, and they never text me about movies and all texted me "Holy Shit, the new Star Wars trailer is amazing"
In all seriousness 550 million is looking very good now. But I'm hoping for the crown!

Ok, so I see the hype has clouded everyone's judgement.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
The trailer was rather random however hearing the Star Wars Main theme play well it was something else.
Nostalgia is strong and SW is still immensely popular.
You have to remember unlike lets say in the mid 2000's you no longer need to sell 70+ million tickets to get a 500 million grosser.
SW7 does not even have to sell that many tickets as other big hit films of today with inflation and 3D and it would fly past them domestically.
However I think the hype is big but still think 450 million is the range for this.

I'll go with $500m total with this teaser. Don't see it getting any lower.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
I think with the buzz, nostalgia and release date it should be good for atleast a TDK gross which could go much higher pending quality.

I mean really awful... like, Abrams makes one of the key characters a homosexual to appeal to modern audiences, or something equally disastrous. If it's awful, it could so easily make less than $300m no matter how nostalgic it is. But I'm at $461m post-teaser. We'll see. It's far too early for anyone to be adamant about any potential this film has.

If its awful - it could very well do something like 120m/300m which would be a sub 3 multiplier but still a solid yet disappointing Hobbit type total gross. Do you recall the crazy predictions fir The Phantom Menace? Many were adamant it would smash Titanic. I think 450m+ would be great for it. It's still rarified air at that level. After all only 4 films have ever grosses that amount unadjusted in their first runs. It's still not exactly a walk in the park.

I am sure this will break the December OW record but I still can absolutely certainly guarantee that this won't come close to whatever Avengers 2 opens to.

That would put SW at $117.7 mil OW. Which I think is more than acceptable, and would still lead to $400+ mil. Yeah, I think people just rush less right before Christmas. I mean, a $150 million opening weekend could easily be enough for a $500+ million total in this case. Agree with this.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
This has broken all trailer records right after TA2 smashed them.
Over 25 million views between 2 videos in less then a day on Youtube.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
More and more people are joining YouTube. More and more people worldwide are getting Internet. It's inevitable that trailer views will be eclipsed. I wouldn't put much faith in trailer views when translating to opening weekend predictions or final grosses, especially not when compared to trailer views of older movies.

http://www.cinemablend.com/new/How-Geor ... 69271.htmlSo Disney hasn't used George Lucas' ideas for SW7 - is that a good or a bad thing in your opinion?
