There's really no need to list winners from 60 years ago.

Also I disagree about ROTK, to me it was an A movie and I still love it, and it deserved it over Mystic River which wasn't that good and Master and Commander was boring. Seabuscuit while good didn't deserve Best Picture.

Getting it because the two films before it were great doesn't mean this one gets it by default. Well I don't think it is a worst movie than Crash, Chicago, Greatest Show on Earth, or Tom Jones. For me Return of the King is my favorite of the series, mainly because I am sucker for the big battle sequences. 2003 was also a weak year. And I don't think Master and Commander or Mystic River were more deserving to win best picture. Mystic River, Lost and Translation, and Seabiscuit were all better. ROTK was trash, well not really, but I can't give it anything better than a B- I give it a B/B+, pretty much every other BP nominee in 03 was better.

 Re: Worst Best Picture Winner
Master and Commander and Lost in Translation were both far, far more deserving of best picture, but The Return of the King is still a very fine film, and I obviously understand why they were motivated to honor Peter Jackson's overall accomplishment.

I can understand some people liking Return of the King, but I'll never understand the hate for Chicago - - it was a top-notch film adaptation of an old school Broadway musical.

Of what I've seen, The English Patient. It's not a bad movie, but it's nothing special, either.

 Re: Worst Best Picture Winner
Well that year was also a bad year, I would have given it to Fargo that year if it was up to me. I could have also put Forrest Gump on this list that movie is very overrated. Pulp Fiction or Shawshank Redemption would have been better choices.

All three are great movies though. All 3 are in my top 15 movies of all time.

 Re: Worst Best Picture Winner
As someone who has Pulp Fiction in his all-time top 10, I should hate Forrest Gump, or at least find it overrated... and yet I love it unapologetically.

 Re: Worst Best Picture Winner
It is a tough choice there, although I would pick Shawshank for that year as it is one of my favorite movies.

 Re: Worst Best Picture Winner
I think it's almost no question the order goes Shawshank, Pulp, and Forrest, but I still don't mind Forrest Gump winning that year. A film like that would never make 330 million in the US ever again. The film was just a monster phenomenon at the time.

 Re: Worst Best Picture Winner
Plenty of people watch old movies, but the poll has 1 vote for an "old movie" out of 17 total votes, so I guess they were wasted here at KJ.
So, there REALLY is no need listing old movies from 60 years ago.
