saw it for the 5th time, easily my fave of the series and maybe my favorite movie ever.

Despite my well known feelings about the franchise, I am honestly thrilled to hear that a fellow moviegoer can have that experience with this film!

:)

(I think the last movie that made me feel like that was Hairspray, five long years ago.)

Post Re: The Dark Knight Rises
The second film, of course, ends with Gordon and Batman agreeing to pin Dent's crimes on Batman so as to prefer Gotham's false vision of Dent as a noble, pure, and righteous crusader. But, in the third film, this is used by Bane to disillusion Gotham, helping the city along as it descends into chaos and violence. Our new hero figure, the Gordon-Levitt character, harshly criticizes Gordon for his decision on the fateful night Dent died. Then, however, during the final "battle," Gordon-Levitt chastises the orphanage head for denying the children hope in the face of nuclear destruction. Gordon-Levitt pulls a Batman/Gordon and lies to them, telling them the bus might protect them from the blast.

In the end, then, is the film ultimately saying the powerful, the few, should lie to the public to shield them from concern and danger? It seems it is because it shows Gordon-Levitt character's initiation into this mindset over the course of the second and third acts.

Thoughts on this, anyone?

So you'd rather have the bus-load of children shit-scared about their impending death in a nuclear blast instead of at least feeling comfort in their final moments?

Also Nolan is a realist. He see's the harsh truths of reality...

Also Batmans voice works well but sometimes just becomes laughable...

A realist whose vision of police overpowering an unruly mob plays out like a 19th century battle scene.

There is a certain redundancy (not sure if this is the best or right word) to Nolan's realism. It's a very grounded and serious rendering of a story centered on...a man who fights crime in a bat costume and an enormous wrestler of an antagonist no one is able to shoot in the head as he travels through the city, giving speeches and moving through crowds.

I love it, though. :P Just in general. It's also what drives the Bourne franchise, the Daniel Craig James Bond films, Minority Report, etc. I'm not sure why, but it's exciting to see absurd adventure stories presented in such a way, as if they are unfolding in recognizable spaces and have real-world repercussions.

Since watching this one I've watched the first two and I like The Dark Knight a lot more now than I did before. It's still massively overrated, and will never equal Batman Begins, but it does have some merit. The Dark Knight Rises is just a bottle cap really, and although I enjoyed it, since viewing it all I can think about are the annoying parts.

Nolan is hit and miss. I'm interested to see what he does next that people will surely masturbate over.

I loved that grounded approach in the first two Batmans, even when they did get completely silly (The bat attracting device or Batman saving Rachel by falling 50+ stories onto a taxi) but I felt like The Dark Knight Rises is so full of such moments that it undermines the serious, quasi-realistic tone. There were so many inconsistencies and rescues where the hero couldn't have possibly known where to find the person in peril.

Like Algren just pointed out, the ridiculous coincidences and strained sequel referencing bits resonate with me much more than the grace notes like JGL's shift in ideology. Maybe I just need to watch it again.

Because the endorphins your body produces when you eye his muscles affect not only the blood flow in your nether regions but also your hearing. His voice is perfectly normal for anyone not obsessed with hot, juicy men bodies.

Post Re: The Dark Knight Rises
Yeah, this is my favorite movie of all time. So different than BB and TDK. It is a superhero movie meets Gladiator. Batman Begins adresses the question of "How does one man change the world?". It is Forrest Gump meets a superhero movie. The Dark Knight is really not even about Bruce - it is about what it takes to make eve the most pure of men (Harvey Dent) go off the deep end. It is Middle East meets America - it a crime/terrorist movie with a superhero in it.

Batman Begins is conquering fear. The Dark Knight is chaos breaking a man. The Dark Knight Rises is overcoming the deepest of pain.

Those are all big stories. The Dark Knight Rises is really about something far smaller. It is about a broken man finding the will to live life once again, and it is so well done. Even more impressively, it is done so well within this absurdly enormous context. Bruce has to make the leap without the rope; he needs to live without the practiced apathy which shields him from possible pain (and happiness). He needs to embrace the potential pain, because that is the way that fear will find him, and with it, the desire to live. It is such a simple, incredibly emotional story. The Dark Knight, by comparison, had no real "story" outside the Harvey Dent character arc. It was Dents movie. This is about the spirit of Bruce "rising". The Lazarus Pit, in the comics, brings men back to life. In the movie, Bruce rediscovers his will to live by being in the pit. It is so well thought out, written, and executed. Bale just kills it. It is so different than anything else in a superhero movie. This is easily the best of Nolans 4 big movies.

And it is told in this huge context, a modern day city being occupied by terrorists. This is a movie like Lawrence of Arabia, or Doctor Zhviago. Gladiator. Multiple major characters written and acted flawlessly, which real and serious character arcs. Heavy themes playing the various structures of society which make this an intellectuals blockbuster. Breathe taking action, all tied up into one incredible piece of art. From the first scene to the last, there is not a scene, not a single line of dialogue, that is off the mark or less than perfect. They really poured all four years into this movie, I am sure. The end result is a movie that is a real stunning achievement by the Nolans.

Seriously, this should be a major Oscar contender.

Acting wise, Bale really deserves recognition. Hatheway, Caine, and Gordon Lovitt should also be up for noms in supporting roles. Nolan obviously for directing and writing. The score for this one is easily the best of the franchise, which is saying something. All the techs and production bits are of the very highest quality. This should easily top 10 nominations come January.

Just a real stunning achievement of a movie. From the opening scene to the ending of the film/series, everything is completely killed. There will never be another Batman movie like this. Superhero movie MAYBE (Superman has the potential).

It's been two months (!!) now but there were multiple instances where people get rescued when Batman couldn't have possibly known where they are. Also it's hard to believe that when Talia is being pursued in a huge car chase with Gordon in the back next to the nuclear bomb, she wouldn't put on a seatbelt. And even if she didn't, it's even harder to believe Gordon would not only survive the truck's plunge but be conscious and talking too.

Those silly moments are what stay with me.
