Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II OW record club
I know it's super-early, but I want to be the first who makes this club, and I hope someone bumps it by the time this is released. I'm not even sure I'll be on this site, but whatever.
The HP franchise is absolutely massive. All the fans will rush out to see this on OW in Summer 2011, it's the "real" ending to the HP series, since I doubt another movie series will ever be made until 2100 or something. Ahem.
Casual viewers will also watch it, i mean, it's the ending of one of the biggest (and certainly the most consistent) franchises ever, the last time we get to see many beloved characters on-screen, etc, etc. The marketing will be through the roof, it won't suffer from Reloaded/Revolutions simply because Matrix's fanbase isn't nearly as large as HP's, and Deathly Hallows I won't get a horrible reaction (so far no HP has recieved a negative reaction so there's no reason to assume Part 7 will). It will drop off horribly and might just go over a x2 multiplier, but 180-200m OW is not out of the question. It will smash past TDK or whatever holds the record by then.
Who's with me?

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II OW record club
HP5 had the buzz surrounding Book 7 release and had great midnights but still could not even make SM3's OW in 5-days. I doubt it will do so in 2011 which looks to be a crowded marketplace. On Top of that it is opening during weekend before memorial. I think quite a few schools would still be in session and I would think families/young kids play a big part in HP opening.
If HP6 and HP7 show huge improvement over the trend we have seen so far then I might change my mind.
As of now I would say 130M max.

I think $140-145m or so would be the upper limit. When does Part 1 come out?

lol, yes, it will break the current record, but by then (in 3-4 years) i doubt itll still be at 158.

Mmm, after the latest trailer, I'm in. It does away with much of the problems I've had with the marketing so far, and will bring in casual viewers, at least initially. Low 3D share or not, the OW record will go down. $165m!

Dark Knight's record really is amazing considering nothing has come even close, and unlike Spider-Man, there's no movies that would have broken it with a Friday release (I suppose Transformers 2 is debatable, but I highly doubt it would have gotten it).

If TF3 ends up being really huge in 3D, this will happen.

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II OW record c
Actually Transformers releasing so close to its OW and being will hurt its chance more than do good...probably we can gauge the insane 3D ratio HP will get in its OW, still I don't see this one increasing hugely in admissions from HP7.1, do remember inflation is a non-factor and then IMAX boost will be taken over by 3D boost.

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II OW record c
Not gonna happen, even with an $75m opening day.
With DH1 percentage drops:
Fri: $75m Sat: $46m (-38%) Sun: $30m (-34%) ---------------------- WKND: $151m
Since DH1 was in November and DH2 in July, the latter will probaly drop more on Saturday but less on Sunday.
Fri: $75m Sat: $43m (-42%) Sun: $32m (-25%) ---------------------- WKND: $150m

I am out at the moment, I see 152 million. I think it can take the OD record.
