Though I would love to see few more(100M weekend) I don't think it is possible anymore. The biggest market where it is relatively new (i.e. China) has been sacked as well. So we should see some drops now

Well, Avatar is arguably the worst film to ever become #1 all time (inevitable at this point). I haven't seen "Birth of a Nation" yet, though!

Still, it's sort of cool to see that films can still approach the level of cultural ubiquity that they used to.

Hey I am not such a big fan of Avatar but still it is not the worst. There are a lot of strong points though all we look for is the weak story line. That is not the only thing that matters.

It's not like there have been a string of really shitty films to be the biggest ever. That's a fairly respectable list when taking populist tendencies into consideration.

BTW, my readers predicted 4.1m on average for total cume before the movie opened... (I predicted 6m but went up to 9m during opening weekend when I read the first crowd reports flooding my website...)

Well that's your opinion. I didn't like Titanic and Gone with the Wind so for me there are 2 movies that are worse than Avatar on that list of highest grossers.

The haters appeared when the film itself or, if prior to its release, when the trailers revealed Cameron's latest opus to be quite trite. The fanboys (including you), on the other hand, were adoring it before there was any way to know it will be what they today perceive as 'great'. There is, therefore, no point in arguing with fanboys, for they are biased by their own prophecy, thus unobjective and and refractory towards reality.

I'm pretty sure, though, that there were also haters prior to the release of any footage.

absurd, many people I know including my self thought this looked silly and dumb until we heard the reviews and the Wom, and we saw it.

The reason why I am an Avatar "fanboy" is because I think its one of the best film of 2009, and is a great epic entertaining picture...
