sold out a 2-D showing

http://www.fandango.com/99517_movietheatershowtimes

that makes it 6 sold out showings so far (a 9:40 and 10:45 to go) vs 3 yesterday.

Theater Monitoring Report for Avatar 1/16/10

All AMC Theaters

3D screens unless noted, sellouts on right

Tysons Corner

14 Showings-6

Hoffman 22

8 Showings-3
IMAX 3D 4 Showings-4

Hampton 24

7 Showings-0
IMAX 3D 4 showings-0
2D 3 Showings-0

Potomac Mills 18

8 Showings-3
IMAX 3D 4 showings-3

Mazza Gallerie 8

4 Showings-0

Columbia 14

8 Showings-2

IMAX 3D 5 showings-4

Security Square 8

4 2D showings-0

Lynnhaven 18

5 Showings-2
IMAX 3D 4 showings-1

A loss of 2 showings from last week and Friday, as Lynhaven (only 7 showings for Lynnhaven yesterday, I typed 8) dropped 2 showings and Book of Eli gained 2 (not sure if it was the same auditorium). A drop of sellouts on the range of 1-2 per theater from last week. Typically lost a sellout from previous week in the mid-late afternoon and in the late evening. Again this may not be a good sample, because the Ravens played tonight.

I would estimate $17.16m with a range of $17-17.5m. I would not be surprised if it was over $18m, because this seems like a very good weekly hold with the Ravens playing. No sellouts for Eli, but again I was not monitoring as closely.

your sellout report indicates a 100% increase in sellouts from what you reported yesterday. I think with what you and I (150%-200% increase in anchorage) have reported 18.5m is the minimum.

one more sellout would indicate a 200% increase in anchorage.

Yet the increase was similiar to last weekend (Fri-Sat) and there were two less shows overall. I wouldn't rule out your projection or even higher (my area might be an outlier like last Sunday due to the Ravens), but that # seems excessive. How many sell outs do you have this weekend compared to last Saturday? You only have 7 (at the moment) this week compared to the 10 out of 12 showings you posted for last Saturday. Avatar lost 2 showings at your theater from last week. I had at least 40 sellouts last Saturday. There might have been more I was late checking some of the new theaters I added to my sample. That is a weekly drop of 33%. I would compare that ratio along with this week's Friday to Saturday ratio and what was the ratio last Fri-Sat.

Sorry just got back into the city so I couldn't get to the deadline. So if you decide not to include my prediction, that's cool. But I'm predicting 17.2 million for the Saturday.

Last saturday 3-D sellouts went 8 for 12, this wk 3-D will go 7 for 8. 2D will match the two sellouts it got last Saturday with two less showings, so the drop is not as severe as it looks, the film lost the screens it did not need.

Except it ended up being 6/8 and 1/2 like I stated. So, it lost 30% of its sellouts along with two shows, even if they were the weakest. It was similar to my theaters.
