2012 is a lock, and will probably win.

 Re: Best Visual Effects 2009
The oscar is already in Avatar's hands. Take it to the bank. Of Cameron's 6 major motion pictures, 5 were nominated for visual effects and 4 won. The man is a trailblazer and I don't see things changing here, especially after what I saw on Avatar Day.

Malick utilizing heavy CGI is a concept I'm still struggling to wrap my mind around, but, at the same time, I can't see him settling for poor VFX. If the CG artistry blends well with his legendary eye for stunning imagery, it could definitely catch Oscar voters' eyes. Though, I s'pose it also depends on how long and important those dino sequences are. If it's just a brief jaunt, similar to the "history of time" montage near the start of Adaptation., I doubt it'll be nominated.

 Re: Best Visual Effects 2009
Heh I am really starting to wonder what the chance is of Transfomers 2 getting snubbed.
Because Avatar is in and Star Trek most likely too. Meaning that TF2 will have to fight 2012.

TF2 has an excellent chance at getting shafted. I'm not even predicting it.
