Henson – The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Hustle & Flow Emile Hirsch – Into the Wild, Lords of Dogtown Hugh Jackman – X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Prestige Melissa Leo – Frozen River, 21 Grams Jane Lynch – Role Models, The 40 Year-Old Virgin Eddie Marsan – Happy-Go-Lucky, The Illusionist James McAvoy – Atonement, The Last King of Scotland Seth Rogen – Monsters vs. Aliens, Knocked Up Paul Rudd – I Love You, Man, Knocked Up Amy Ryan – Changeling, Gone Baby Gone Michael Shannon – Revolutionary Road, Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead Michelle Williams – Wendy and Lucy, Brokeback Mountain Jeffrey Wright – Quantum of Solace, W. I noticed a lot of Team Apatow (Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, Jane Lynch, James Franco, Michael Cera... for sure they'll vote in Funny People). Also, Eddie Marsan and Emily Blunt! Clint Mansell gets in too among the composers (along with Peter Gabriel), which is cool. More here: http://incontention.com/?p=9434

That is interesting. Yet Marsan got invited.

But he should have been. Even moreso than Hawkins (who, of course, was very good too).

 Re: 2009 Academy Invites
that's promising for Funny People's Oscar chances. If the movie's as good as they say, a Screenplay nod at the very least is happening.

 Re: 2009 Academy Invites
What effect could that possibly have on Funny People's oscar chances? I'm really asking. Other than three extra votes.

 Re: 2009 Academy Invites
If the use the same ballot system, a film only needs 600 #1s to be nominated. So I guess for Funny People, 597.

 Re: 2009 Academy Invites
well, apparently the age of 2009's class skews young. So yeah, in that regard the chances of a comedy/Apatow film getting in is increased as well. But only by a small percentage.
You still have the overwhelming amount of old people that will block vote for Bright Star. John Keats! YES! Adam Sandler? NO THANK YOU!

 Re: 2009 Academy Invites
Amy Ryan, Viola Davis and Michelle Williams should have gotten an AMPAS membership the instant they were nominated.
Nomination should be enough for a membership.

Other than three extra votes. doesn't the idea that the Academy invited all of them show that they have at least taken a liking to Apatow's people? Regardless, my prediction for it to get in lies more in its early reviews and the doubling of the BP category, but this only helps.
