Might be an 8. I don't know. That was a serious trip, though.

The Merry Widow- 7/10

The buildup was great(!!!) but it kinda fell flat near the end for me. Some great moments throughout, though. I watched it on YouTube, which may have made it sort of awkward. I had never watched a full movie on YT.

However, I must say I would buy it on DVD if it got released. It's full of Lubitsch moments and certainly deserves to be seen and heard decently.

I agree. Where's the DVD?!?! I had to watch it on the blasted YouTube as well. It's no Smiling Lieutenant (damn production code), but it's Lubitsch through and through.

Definitely check out the silent Erich von Stroheim version if you ever come across it. I was lucky; my school library had a VHS copy.

Isn't it awful just having to stop and click every 10 minutes?

I'll have to see if Netflix has the silent on DVD. Does it go by the same title?

Yeah, same title, but no, it's not on DVD. Warner, usually so stellar on the home video end, has done nothing in terms of releasing all those great MGM silents they own. Only a few Garbos and Lon Chaneys have escaped via the "TCM Archives" label.

There's even another terrific Lubitsch they've ignored: The Student Prince in Old Heidelberg.

Encounters at the End of the World- 9/10

It makes you rethink the meaning of life. Those huge, walking starfish-like creatures, the tinge created by the light above the ice in those undersea scenes, the sound that those seals make (!!!), it's all so magnificent. You gotta give it to Werner because ain't nobody else doing this shit, not the way he does it.
