Re: Yahoo Review Thread - Horton, Doomsday, Never Back Down
How is $45-50 million a disappointing opening? It's pretty much right on the money with where most analysts expected it would be, only a few notches below tracking, and quite possibly (depending upon whether it's over or under Ratatouille's $47 million start) larger than every 2007 computer animated film save for Shrek the Third.

You see I thought it had potential to break out with $18-20 million OD

Re: Yahoo Review Thread - Horton, Doomsday, Never Back Down
There's a difference between being a disappointment and not breaking out. If this was going to do around $30 million for the weekend, it would be a disappointment. The take hinted at over at DHD is about right on the money with expectations.

I'd like to point out this was posted at 5:45pm PST, it's not even close to busy time yet on the Pacific coast... these are extremely early numbers and therefore could be quite off.

Re: Yahoo Review Thread - Horton, Doomsday, Never Back Down
If Horton does have a 12/13 OD, and something around 45-50 for the weekend, that is a huge success. Despite what tracking says, or what expectations were. The only non-sequel CG films that can do this are the Pixar films. The CG films released early/mid NOV (Chicken Little, Happy Feet, Bee Movie) have all opened around 40, and that seems to be the ceiling for most of them. So anything over 40 is super good in my opinion.

Still looks like a $14-15m day.

A $15 mil OD guarantees $50+ mil OW.

Re: Yahoo Review Thread - 21, Superhero, Run, Stop
Look like Yahoo is updating today: 21 - 244 (8), B Run, Fat Boy, Run - 117 (7), B- Stop-Loss - 121 (6), B- Superhero Movie - 269 (7), B- All already have more reviews than we usually do. Not sure exactly why since I didn't check late last night, but will see how the pace looks.

Leatherheads - 63 (11), B+ Nim's Island - 66 (9), B+ The Ruins - 91 (20), B- Yahoo isn't exactly very reliable any more, or we just need to adjust our ratios to fit the new data. Still, doesn't look great for Leatherheads, although the ratio shouldn't be high (21 was around 70 last week). The Ruins will have the highest ratio of the three, but getting close to 100 by now is pretty decent.

Actually it's been at these exact numbers since about noon. The only count that appears to change is the written reviews.

Re: Yahoo Review Thread - TFK, FSM, 88 Minutes
The Forbidden Kingdom - 165 (14), B+ Forgetting Sarah Marshall - 190 (10), B 88 Minutes - 429 (25), B- The ratio for TFK should be pretty low since it's given the fancy-page treatment from Yahoo. Should be around 100 for FSM if Yahoo still works. And hard to say for 88 Minutes given it's already available, has more than 10,000 votes at IMDb, and I didn't catch what number it began with.
