Julia is not getting nominated for Charlie Wilson's War. No, no, no.

Re: Building A Consensus: T-5 Days (Supporting Actor/Actress)
I don't think Hoffman will miss out. Not only is he quite deserving, but he had two other performances this year that were (apparently) just as good. So the Academy will give him the nomination as a way of awarding him for all of his work.

Re: Building A Consensus: T-5 Days (Supporting Actor/Actress)
I think Dano and Garner will somehow get in to their respective categories. I'm really rooting for both. And if they get in, they'd probably be my favorites in each category.

Re: Building A Consensus: T-5 Days (Supporting Actor/Actress)
I think these seem to be the safe picks:
Best Supporting Actor Casey Affleck, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford Javier Bardem, No Country for Old Men Philip Seymour Hoffman, Charlie Wilson's War Hal Holbrook, Into the Wild Tom Wilkinson, Michael Clayton
Best Supporting Actress Cate Blanchett, I'm Not There Catherine Keener, Into the Wild Saoirse Ronan, Atonement Amy Ryan, Gone Baby Gone Tilda Swinton, Michael Clayton
And I say our two potential spoilers are...
Jennifer Garner, in place of Ronan.
And Paul Dano, upsetting PSH.
Incidentally, I really hope those two get in and Ronan and PSH miss out. Biased? Nah... (probably.)

Re: Building A Consensus: T-5 Days (Supporting Actor/Actress)
I'd really like to see Romola Garai get in for Atonement. It's absolutely heartbreaking watching her misery as she tries to figure out some kind of way to atone for what happened years earlier. But seeing as there's been absolutely no buzz for her, there's no chance that it happens.

Yep, I mentioned this in the Everyone's a Critic thread but I'm surprised she's barely been mentioned this year, she wasn't any worse than Ronan and Redgrave for me. A silently heartbreaking and very very good internal performance.

I opted for Gosling rather than Depp instead.

Finally, an interesting race. Seriously, this category is also quite strong this year.

Re: Building A Consensus: T-4 Days (Best Actor)
Not wanting to sound racist here, but I do think Denzel has the biggest shot here among black actors, and it'll seem kinda weird if only white actors are nominated this year. Or maybe we're already one step ahead and nobody really cares anymore about filling the "quota" - they're looking past black and white! Riiight..
