Re: Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
My favorite movie of the decade so far. It's tough for me to imagine a more satisfying capper to such an amazing trilogy. There wasn't a moment in the entire 200-minute running time that didn't take my breath away. It's perfect proof of why The Lord of the Rings will be remembered for decades to come.
Grade: A

Re: Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
Easily the worst of the trilogy. Not only is it long and boring at points, but at many times is filled with plotholes as well too much ridiculous for its own good. After the fantastic first and second films, this one really is the weakest.
FOTR- A TTT- A+ ROTK- B

A+ yeah right, the dullness of the movie is so ingrained into each scene that it would be totally impossible for the film to receive anything above an A-. The editing had nothing on the first two. Its like PJ got lazy with the last one, or tried way to hard, its over bloated and overlong very similar to kong.

Re: Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
a great conclusion to what's undoubtedly been the best trilogy I've ever seen. Definitely not as strong in a storytelling sense nor as emotionally resonant as Fellowship of the Ring, but better in both cases than The Two Towers. But in reality, looking at stuff like Godfather Part III, it's a miracle that this turned out so well.
A+

to be fair guys... lord of the rings is one book of three parts. can't compare to other trilogies on an oranges-to-oranges basis.

Re: Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
I think this was a huge step down from the first two movies (I flip-flop constantly on which of the two is my all-time fav).
It still gets an A+ from me, and is my number three film of all time.
This just goes to show how very very incredibly fond of the first two I really am.

Re: Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
well, FOTR to me really captured the real essence of Lord of the Rings.
TTT and Rotk are so uneven. So many great scenes mixed in with so many boring scenes.
Fotr is solid throughout.

If only Singer had thought of incorporating one into his crappy Superman movie.

Re: Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
WITH TTT and Rotk you had Helms deep and the big Battle.
Then it switched to very stupid and boring scenes with the ents and Frodo and Sam.
It just felt so uneven and lets not forget the ending of Rotk. The ending was just so long and really if it ended with the ship leaving it would have been perfect. The two films are better looking but are so uneven. You just sit there wand wait for the good parts and literally want to skip the scenes between.

Magnus, Magnus, Magnus. What am I going to do with you?
FOTR is the best because it's only one story being told. It doesn't fall prey to the failings of cross-cutting. It's the most epic not because it has the biggest battle or the most special effects, but because it has the most interesting and well-told story. FOTR is what I think of when I think of LOTR.

This is usually the case with epic fantasy series. The first few books are always great as they are full of hope and adventure. Later, as more characters enter the story - too mant plot lines need to be attended to and this takes away from story's flow. Personally I agree - i like FOTR for the same reasons but I love the other two aswell.

Wait...are there people who don't skip all the Merry/Pippin/ent scenes in The Two Towers?

Re: Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
I don't know how you manage it...I get absolutely nothing out of those scenes and the ents talk so damn slowly. The entire story is only worth it for the scene where they throw rocks and shit at Saruman
