I'd give this movie an B+. Amy Adams and James Marsden were fantastic in their roles. Patrick Dempsey was adequate and didn't take away from the movie at all. I haven't laughed so hard at a PG movie in a while. I agree that the movie went downhill a bit after the park musical scene.

As far as the animation not being "fully realized", I guess I don't know what that really means, but to me, it seemed like they were knocking off old animation quality. Sort of a reminder to the adults of the old Disney princess movies they watched as children.

Umm, I was a bit taken aback by Idina Menzel in this movie. I am only familiar with her by a couple things, like Rent, but I never took notice of her as being unattractive and a bad actress, but apparently she should stick to the stage.

Yup, you nailed it. Also agree with whoever it was that said it needed a better script. I thought it started off strong, but then dropped in quality. Not enough to make me dislike it, though.

Yeah, I saw it. I wasn't expecting much, apart from some light entertainment, and that's just what I got. It's pretty funny, and surprisingly witty at times, and I enjoyed all the nods to prior Disney works, but it's just too corny at times. I would have liked it if it had played more on the Disney formula instead of falling into it. The songs are fine, though the one at the ball is completely out of place and took me right out of the film. Marsden is probably the highlight, as he doesn't take his role too seriously and looks to be having a lot of fun. Amy Adams is great to look at, but her 'aw shucks' performance eventually got on my nerves. I didn't find it as charming as everyone else did, apparently. Overall, the film's not terrible, but it's nothing special.

I really enjoyed it. What makes it work mostly is Amy Adams, who is perfect. A lesser actor would have ruined it and turned it into a made for TV kind of film Disney does all the time.

Its cute and inoffensive, and Amy Adams in full on sugar mode is great to watch. Not a masterpiece but you could do worse.

they took an idea that could've been handled it terribly and handled it as well as was possible. From the stunningly Disney-esque performances of Amy Adams and James Marsden [it's such garbage that he's getting no attention at all and Adams will probably be nominated for Best Actress] to the very clever balance between satire-on-Disney and made-like-Disney moments to the [rare, but] great musical numbers, this really was a delight. I told the rest of my family to go see it, and my dad [who normally never likes family films, the only one this year that has pleased him was Ratatouille, now one of his all-time favorites] came back saying he had a smile on his face the entire time. This really is a movie for the entire family, since it knows how to entertain adults and kids so well.

This and Hairspray in a single day. What a FUN double feature huh?

I really enjoyed it(duh), and Amy Adams is like the cutest girl ever, meaning she would be my ideal princess when I was younger and I didn't realise I could enjoy the princes more. 'Cause let's say it, it's the general consensus: she easely outshines the rest of the cast including the two princes AND veteran Susan Sarandon (who finally is just having fun in a movie, no strings attached, in a way she hasn't done in ages - did someone mention Witches of Eastwick? I think so. ). What a performance. She's the princess. I won't mind an Oscar nom at all... for her and the song.

Director Kevin Lima does a serviceable job and credit must be given to those first 15 or 20 minutes. I want tradicional animation back damn it!

"How does she knoooooooows...." :D

P.S. - oh, and don't you ever wanto to be in a room with a guy reading the subtitles to the younger kid, specially in a monotonous tone, LOL. Definitely irritating.

It was fun yes, but overly corny? Oh yes! Of course the 2-D animation really got me back in the Renaissance Disney mood, but too bad I wasn't a big fan of those movies - I liked them just not as much as several people do. The performances were solid, especially from Amy and James, the music was good too (except that song at the ball, as someone else already mentioned it was very off key to the rest of the story), but I can't give this an A grade because of how corny this film got at times.

Easily one of the most enjoyable movies I've seen this year. Like almost everyone here already said, Amy Adams was fantastic and ultra-cute. The rest of the cast was great too. I thought Sarandon's dragon at the end was a bit too much but that's just a minor complaint. B+

Likeable because of James Marsden and Amy Adams. They have a lot of fun in their roles and I had fun watching them. Everything else..........not so much. I just love that Dempsey ends up dumping his girlfriend of five years after knowing her for three days and thinking she was crazy for two of them. Then again, I guess it was true love.

Yes, yes it is. That makes it all the more interesting that he dumped his girlfriend of five years. Solid message there.

Well at least he dumped her instead of cheating on her and then marrying her anyway/getting dumped by her.

Because it was a fairy tale. ;)

I have to admit I did kind of like the film. If it weren't for Adams and Marsden though this would've been unbearable.

considering the Disney princesses in all the Disney classics don't have any sort of relationship with the men they fall in love with, this movie was pretty damn in that regard :mer:

It was a cute movie and a good move for Disney. Amy Adams is the main attraction for the film. She did an amazing job and the movie would not be as great without her. Overall, good film that does a nice job at being cute, funny, and just good fun to watch.

Probably a B+/A-

Post Re: Enchanted
Amy Adams is fucking incredible and is the sole reason to see the flick. The music is all-around fairly solid...I enjoyed the "How Does She Know" number, but not as much as everyone else here. The copy I downloaded had some syncing issues around that time, so I admit that my opinion is a bit unfair. Catchy song though. Marsden does well enough, although he didn't get a whole lot of screen time. Menzel, Sarandon, and Dempsey walk through their roles and hit the right cues, but never really shine. That is until sarandon dresses up as the old lady. Solid work there.

Overall, the movie is a bit lacking. I think all of the funniest parts were shown in the advertisements, which really detracted from my enjoyment. The story was over-the-top, in traditional Disney fairy-tale fashion, but I think the movie would have done better to stay away from becoming the thing I think it was trying to satire. Or I was mislead in the beginning of the movie into thinking it was a satire. Either way, the film-makers made a mistake.

As for a grade, the movie would be nothing without Amy Adams. NOTHING. She elevates the movie from a C all the way up to a B+. She is THAT good.

Thank you! This is my problem with it. It started off total satire, but by the end I was vomiting from the sap. It lost its footing early on and didn't regain it. And Amy Adams did nothing for me.

A perfect light fatasy movie. I liked Amy Adams but I think the rest of the cast gets neglected. They were all great and it seemed they had a lot of fun starring here...

I kind of agree, but I'm willing to let it slide because Amy Adams did a wonderful job with what she was given. She's so darling. And, because of her, there were a select few moments that I found to be really quite romantic in that fantasy fluff sort of a way. It's really inoffensive, well-acted for the most part, and a fun way to spend time with someone looking for less serious cinema.

What a wonderful and delightful treat. I went in with really no particular expectations and came out with a big smile on my face. There has been a similar movie this year that delighted me upon its viewing as much and that was Stardust (though I liked that one even more). Enchanted is an innocent, charming and delightfully funny fairy tale that is really for everyone. There were not as many singing and dancing scenes as I feared (and the main one, in Central Park was actually very good...I just didn't want whole movie to be this way).

Amy Adamas is simply, well, enchanting in the lead role. She pulls off the naive Giselle with such sweetness, lovability and charm that you just can't help, but be rooting for her. She's just splendid and delivered one of the best three female performances I've seen in any 2007 film (the other two being Cotillard and Jolie). The lack of an Oscar nom for her is an outright snub. James Marsden did surprisingly well in his part too, delivering a lot of laughs. Overall, the movie was really funny, but it also always had its heart in the right place. The neat jabs at other Disney works were great too. The whole look of the movie, starting with the costumes, right down to the animated parts and all is just spot-on.

The only downers are Patrick Dempsey who just couldn't be more one-dimensional in his role and the way too short appearance by Susan Sarandon who could have made for a much more impressive villain if given more screentime. On the whole, I really enjoyed this film and it surprises me to no end that among my very favorite films of 2007 are two sweet fairy tales. I really didn't expect that, but both are moviemaking at its finest.

And, really, I can't stress enough how wonderful Amy Adams was in this film!

ENCHANTED - 8/10 (B+)

Amy Adams is delightful and the romance was sweet. Some little things annoyed me though. My boss had this same problem with it and now I know what she means. Throughout the whole movie she wears these really nice dresses and her hair is all beautiful, and then at the big ball she is the plainest person there. Her hair is straightened and her dress has no frills or anything. It's really annoying. I was also annoyed that they were still stuck on the building and they acted like they were already on the ground. How the hell did they get back down?

Overall I wish I could have loved it just a tad more, but it was still very enjoyable.
