I need to let it ruminate a bit more, but this is a serious contender for a very high top ten spot right now. I can't believe how under the radar this movie has flown, especially given its inherently sensational topic. It is essentially perfect.

I was supposed to see Zoo way back when in Seattle with Andaroo. But we watched Pirates instead. I think I may watch it today, based on your post. :)

I would strongly recommend it to you loyal. I really hope you get to see it soon.

It is Koyaanisqatsi. It is George Washing. 'Cept it's a "documentary" (you could not use that term lighter) about horse sex.

But it's not about horse sex. It's about loneliness, and feeling like you have no place in the world, and the depths some people will sink to in order to fill that void. The movie is filled with long, perfectly composed and wholly open shots of seemingly nothing. A winding highway, a field of wheat, forests, mountains. It's all about the emptiness of existence. It is impressionistic filmmaking.

Oh, and the score is deliciously close to something Philip Glass would compose.

Hmmm Gone Baby Gone worms its way into my top 10. Curse you moral quandary film!

For general purposes, or a year-end wrap up article on the main site, I say go for it.

For this list thing, compiling the top 10 consensus amongst forum users, I say no...I mean, it'd be a little lame for you to give 10+ films points when everyone else only has ten slots. Also, was it ever decided if we're using everyone who submits a list towards the main site's top 10?

I updated my list considerably. But I still have to see all the Oscar Contenders (none have been released here yet!). I'm going to to buy NCFOM and Juno on Pirate DVD as soon as I can.

Life isn't very fair. Won't be back in berkeley (where I can actually catch limited release films) until the 17th, so my final submission won't be as final as others, but it should be relevant enough. I'm looking forward to seeing what we agree upon.

This is what I get for going on vacation and then coming back and not realizing what the hell is going on. I just submitted my list - not very exciting. It still has some work to go to be complete, but it'll be done by the 15th. And as I mentioned in that thread I still have to see; Juno, Enchanted (didn't mention it there, but I'm probably seeing it tomorrow and hell could possibly freeze over), There Will Be Blood, Charlie Wilson's War, The Great Debaters, and Sweeney Todd. The only film I will not see is Atonement. Now this may lose me some likeability poins (FYC: Most Overlooked Poster  ) but I just know that is a film that will cause me to fall asleep 15 minutes in. A British period piece is not a good mix for me. I'll catch it on DVD though.

I think we should change the deadline to coincide with the 2007 WOKJ Motion Picture Awards so that 1) the WOKJ Top 10 list won't yet be available to influence the WOKJ MPA voting, 2) easier on the user to make both the list and their ballots at the same time, 3) more incentive and time to catch up on movies before the deadline. Also maybe Sunday or Monday instead of Tuesday January 21 so these doesn't get lost in the shuffle of the Oscar nominations.

Updated my top ten in the other thread. A big overhaul, if I do say so myself.

I'll probably end up seeing it. I don't think it'll be before the deadline, but since I think it's going to get Oscar attention I'll check it out.

There's a chance that Zodiac has finally been knocked off as #1 on my list... and considering it was by a film that didn't crack my top ten the first time I saw it, I must say I'm rather surprised, but really pleased. I'm still thinking it over a bit.

I saw two "Oscar" movies tonight, Control and Charlie Wilson's War. It was strange seeing a movie that is so expertly constructed, so precise and *ehm* controlled, and then seeing one that is kind of a formal mess. Anton Corbijn has moments of Kubrickian clarity in Control. Every shot, every frame is carefully considered and composed. I haven't seen a movie with aesthetics this consistent and profound in, well... a long time.

I'm tempted to put Control in my top 10, need another viewing.

It's going to end up in my personal main site top 10 but I can't fit it into this top 10.

No objections to me doing one of those as well? :)

I'm so sad There Will Be Blood isn't expanding sooner/wider so that I may see it before the 15th. :( :( :(

Why does the deadline have to be the 15th? Couldn't you move it a couple of days? Just for foreigners if you don't wanna do it for everyone. Please understand that not everyone can see all the oscar contenders so easily. If you don't move the deadline then this list won't really reflect what KJ's best films of 2007 are, just what people got to see before the deadline. I'm sure if you did one list on the 15th, and another list a week later it would be different.

hat is not quite correct for me, for instance.

But I understand the reasoning here.

However, the Motion Picture awards of WOKJ, that are not for the main site, that's where I really don't get the early deadline.

Amazingly enough, the top 10 list I posted a few weeks ago might remain standing.

I saw There Will Be Blood this evening and I don't think it will make my top 10.

Still want to see before the deadline: Zodiac, Jesse James, Sweeney (?), Margot and Lars. Juno and Michael Clayton - not so much. Both Sideways and Little Miss Sunshine failed to make my top 10, and MC gives me the impression of a well made movie without spark.

So much for Juno making the Top 10. I think when all is said and done, my list is going to look virtually identical. I still need to see There Will Be Blood, Charlie Wilson's War, Atonement, Sweeney Todd, and for shits and gigles - I Am Legend. If any films have a chance, I'd say the first two do.

Juno didn't quite make it, but I still thought it was great.

There Will Be Blood is the only one that's left (with a chance, at least), but I'm having trouble finding someone to see it with (and it's in the city, so I'm not the type to go into the city just to see a flick, let alone by myself), so I don't know if I'll manage it before the deadline unless a screener shows up. I refuse to see films by myself so I'm kind of in a jam, 'cause I really do wanna see it.

Just watched Persepolis and its a definate edition to my top 10. You won't find many other films that treat its subject matter with such style.
