Re: WorldofKJ Top 10 Films Of 2007
i still think the main site and the forums over all should have separate lists. it feels dumb to exclude anyone from the forums (box office fans are watching tons of movies every week, too), but it feels just as weird to have the "site" compiling based on the lists of anyone who wants to participate. like a magazine might have a ten or twenty person "editors" list, and then the next month print a bunch of "fan lists" or something.

Here's what I think loyal...
Leave the thread in the Awards Forum, but open it to everyone. If someone posts a stupid fucking top ten, we vote on whether it should be included or not.

Re: WorldofKJ Top 10 Films Of 2007
Ok, how about this idea. Make this open to everyone. Any list that anyone deems inappropriate, someone can nominate it for review. If it gets seconded, it goes up for review. A separate thread (in a subforum) is opened to vote on that list, and after a predetermined time limit (2 days? 3 days?) if the yeas win, it gets tossed out. If the nays win, it remains.

1. Ratatouille.
It's the only movie I've seen that deserves mention.

Re: WorldofKJ Top 10 Films Of 2007 (Discussion)
I think re: foreign, it should just be the old, reliable IMDb rule. The Wind etc got it's first non-film-festival release in the US in 2007 so it's eligible. (just gotta make a consistent ruling and since this board is mostly american, imdb is probably the best standard.)

I need to know if I'll include The Wind That shakes The Barley or not. As its appeared on other lists, I'm cool with it. Awesome. Loyal, be nice to me and watch it!!. The rest of you lot as well

It's sound logic, but maybe a rule that isn't relegated to one sub-forum is in order. Hmm, I actually tend to agree with this rule. Though I understand if some others find it annoying. That said, the deadline sucks once again for foreign users, but in this case, I can understand the reasoning behind it. I'll try to catch until then: Away from Her 3:10 to Yuma Enchanted Eastern Promises Atonement Once I think that's about all I'll manage.

Rising up on the list of people I hate: They who name their torrent Gone Baby Gone, when it's really Chuck and Larry. He even made me go to his site and click on his advertisements to get a password to watch. Serves me right.

What does "suspect" mean? What happens when your list is deemed suspect? And also, why must we post our lists in a spolier format? And, does The Lives of Others count towards 2007?, because in USA it was released in 2007, but in the Oscars it counted towards 2006.

Re: WorldofKJ Top 10 Films Of 2007 (Discussion)
I live in Peru, so tons of Oscar films (like Sweeney Todd for example, which I'm dying to see) probably won't open here by Jan 15th. Could the submission date for the final list be a little later? At least it would give me time to find a good quality Pirate DVD copy of some Oscar Contenders that haven't been released in theatres.

All of what you guys said I agree with (for the most part). I've been slowly catching up on what I missed, and I should be alright by the 15th. If not, I'll just post a nearly-final list. I'm psyched for this.

I just watched Zoo.
I need to let it ruminate a bit more, but this is a serious contender for a very high top ten spot right now. I can't believe how under the radar this movie has flown, especially given its inherently sensational topic. It is essentially perfect.

I can't believe how under the radar this movie has flown, especially given its inherently sensational topic. It is essentially perfect. I was supposed to see Zoo way back when in Seattle with Andaroo. But we watched Pirates instead. I think I may watch it today, based on your post. I would strongly recommend it to you loyal. I really hope you get to see it soon. It is Koyaanisqatsi. It is George Washing. 'Cept it's a "documentary" (you could not use that term lighter) about horse sex. But it's not about horse sex. It's about loneliness, and feeling like you have no place in the world, and the depths some people will sink to in order to fill that void. The movie is filled with long, perfectly composed and wholly open shots of seemingly nothing. A winding highway, a field of wheat, forests, mountains. It's all about the emptiness of existence. It is impressionistic filmmaking. Oh, and the score is deliciously close to something Philip Glass would compose.

Re: WorldofKJ Top 10 Films Of 2007 (Discussion)
For general purposes, or a year-end wrap up article on the main site, I say go for it.
For this list thing, compiling the top 10 consensus amongst forum users, I say no...I mean, it'd be a little lame for you to give 10+ films points when everyone else only has ten slots. Also, was it ever decided if we're using everyone who submits a list towards the main site's top 10?

I updated my list considerably. But I still have to see all the Oscar Contenders (none have been released here yet!). I'm going to to buy NCFOM and Juno on Pirate DVD as soon as I can.

Life isn't very fair. Won't be back in berkeley (where I can actually catch limited release films) until the 17th, so my final submission won't be as final as others, but it should be relevant enough. I'm looking forward to seeing what we agree upon.

Re: WorldofKJ Top 10 Films Of 2007 (Discussion)
This is what I get for going on vacation and then coming back and not realizing what the hell is going on. I just submitted my list - not very exciting. It still has some work to go to be complete, but it'll be done by the 15th. And as I mentioned in that thread I still have to see; Juno, Enchanted (didn't mention it there, but I'm probably seeing it tomorrow and hell could possibly freeze over), There Will Be Blood, Charlie Wilson's War, The Great Debaters, and Sweeney Todd. The only film I will not see is Atonement. Now this may lose me some likeability poins (FYC: Most Overlooked Poster ) but I just know that is a film that will cause me to fall asleep 15 minutes in. A British period piece is not a good mix for me. I'll catch it on DVD though.
