MC is either going to tank or will have a really low ratio given the pace. I can't believe the former is true, but after last week's disastrous B.O., who knows?

It's a low-key legal thriller.

Using a person's name for a title as a fall/winter oscar drama movie. Thats what the confusion comes from

Either way, Roid makes a good point in that it looks like a drama much more than a thriller. There's no action or chase scenes shown in the marketing, just a lot of arguing and critics raves. I've never understood why people thought this would do so well.

People were deluded into thinking George Clooney would bring in the audience which isn't true. Syriana didn't do all that well either.

Re: Yahoo Review Thread - Oct 12, 2007
Michael Clayton - 241 (38), +29 (+1), B Why Did I Get Married - 221 (21), +147 (+16), B+ (down from A-) Elizabeth: The Golden Age - 134 (26), +90 (+23), B+ We Own the Night - 64 (12), +27 (+2), B The Final Season - 14 (2), +4 (+0), A- Given Michael Clayton's pace is similar to We Own the Night's, we could assume it has gotten similar number of reviews so far today. I still think both only need about 200 reviews to reach double-digit for the weekend. The Final Season is having one of the slowest pace ever, 4 in 5 hours. $0.2m may even be a stretch.

And when do those types of dramas, especially ones that deal with big companies rather than say courtrooms, perform as well as some were expecting Michael Clayton to?

I just saw the movie. It will not a be big box office performer. It's too intelligent and "talky" for most audiences, probably. I see it doing about The Constant Gardener numbers, which would still be fine.

Michael Clayton - 308 (46), +56 (+7), B+ (up from B) Why Did I Get Married - 456 (83), +194 (+55), B+ Elizabeth: The Golden Age - 224 (41), +72 (+13), B+ We Own the Night - 127 (19), +51 (+7), B The Final Season - 15 (2), +1 (+0), B+ Look like the ratio for Why Did I Get Married won't be that big. Still I don't see $8m+. Going with $5-6m. $3m for both Michael Clayton and We Own the Night. $2.5m for The Golden Age. And $0.2m for The Final Season.

Re: Yahoo Review Thread - Oct 12, 2007
5-6 million seems top low for perry films. there has been reports that this film is selling out just about everywere. It sounds like a repeat of his first two film.

Re: Yahoo Review Thread - Oct 12, 2007
Based on the crowd reports, 'Married' looks like it will indeed have a low ratio. I wouldn't go as high as $8M, but $6-7M seems realistic.
I really thought Clayton would perform better, if only for Clooney's name alone. Guess the film seemed "too intelligent" for many folks. And what happened to The Final Season? I know the marketing was very poor, but I can't recall a film ever having this slow a pace throughout the day.

Re: Yahoo Review Thread - Oct 12, 2007
Surprised at the good grade for Elizabeth: The Golden Age. Perhaps the director/screenwriters were correct afterall in making it so cheey and melodramatic for its intended audience.
