01. Stanley Kubrick - 3 02. David Lynch - 27 03. Terrence Malick - 58 04. Alfred Hitchcock - 2 05. Krzysztof Kieslowski - 85 06. Andrei Tarkovsky - 98 07. Brian De Palma - 22 08. Federico Fellini - 51 09. Robert Bresson - WTF 10. David Gordon Green - WTF 11. Dario Argento - WTF 12. Chris Marker - WTF 13. Peter Greenaway - WTF 14. Pedro Almodovar - 90 15. David Cronenberg - 33 16. Ingmar Bergman - 28 17. Akira Kurosawa - 19 18. Joel and Ethan Coen - 13 19. P. T. Anderson - 76 20. Wes Anderson - 57
The last two were an attempt to get some young bloods I love up real high, since I figured there would be a lot of support for them anyway. I was wrong.
If I could do it again I would shuffle around some of the rankings and add/drop a couple of names. There were a handful of directors that either didn't make the cut or I totally forgot about, too.

Good list, trixster. Not perfect, that's only mine, but good. Ofcourse, I dislike around 17 choices.

Like Gulli said, you got roughed up a bit in the thread, but I hope you know it was mostly in jest, and that I actually appreciate you more than most folks around here. You are actively trying to learn and seek out great movies, and that is a lot more than most can say, and something you and I have in common.

I assume by the pretentious comment trix was referring to yosh and makeshift pretending their taste is better than anyone else's. Not everyone's, just your's. Thanks for confirming my point There is really nothing that says you have > or < taste than me, trix, Zingaling, or that schlub across the street. Oh you know, except things like context, general consensus, history, knowledge, etc. Look, I'm not saying that I know all there is to know about movies. That's not possible, and I would never assume anything that asinine. There are thousand of amazing movies I have never seen, and hundreds of movies I love that I probably shouldn't (and will look back on in great embarrassment). But what I am saying is that there are instances of absolute truth in everything, and this includes movies. Rob Reiner not being one of the 20 greatest directors of all time is one of these instances. To dismiss this with something like "Well it's just my opinion, and all opinion's are equal and valid" is nonsense. If all opinions are the same, what is the point of talking about anything? What is the point of watching movies if what you like has the same value of what everyone else likes? Anyways, Price requested this conversation not take place, so that be it from me I 'spose. But what I'm trying to say in a roundabout way is I ain't mad at ya boo (boo being Shack, naturally). Thanks. Btw on the last page when you mentioned making assumptions about the way you take in movies, I think you're referring to my post in the Chinatown thread, which to be honest I almost wanted to edit out and would've if it wasn't quoted. I was mostly joking around in the review, the reply came out wrongly worded and was too generalizing.

Yes, I have seen The Long Good Friday. Bob Hoskins is a superb actor. Mona Lisa, anyone?
His talent is not the issue here.
As a trio, those names scream "Tonight, on a Sci-Fi Channel Original movie..."

Gullimont wrote: You've got beat around in this thread alot, so Ill offer some nice words and say you'd be in my top 5 posters who's opinion I'd take seriously as a helpful barometer. Thanks. I know I'm hated for a bunch of my picks, but what's the point if I just choose directors that everyone else thinks is great? Sure Fellini, Bergman, Tarkovsky, Kurosawa, even Woody Allen may be great directors, but as I haven't seen any films by them, why should I give them the benefit of the doubt?

Shack and Trixster are two of my favorite posters. Both have shown a continuing interest in finding good films (although Trixster, like Gulli before him, refuses to give shit porn a chance) and are excellent writers.
It's just that the fun of revealing the list is in razzing everyone!

Gulli, do you just like doomsday movies, or does this doomsday thing carry over into real life? Like, can you be found on street corners wielding large imposing signs and screaming at passerbys who simply don't give a shit?

I'm hoping for Floating Weeds, only because 400 Blows, Black Orpheus and Hiroshima Mon Amour already have threads, to my knowledge.
