David Chase obviously didnt close the door on the Sopranos. I dont know how it'll return or when but it will.

I liked the last episode, The ending was good, but at the same time felt very cheated. Its not that the ending was bad, but when it was marketed all season as being huge changes, it ended rather "Its same ole same sole" Which was good, but not what it was made out to be

Pauly and the Chris Cat was hysterical and Phil's death was probably the highlight of the year, the reaction of the spectators were priceless.

This was the best interpretation I heard.

Tony is not whacked, but we, the audience were. Thats why we no longer see anything. Life goes on for the Sopranoes but now we will no longer be able to tune in and watch.

I've been reading though that the guy at the counter was Phil's nephew, the two black guys are the two that tried to kill Tony in Season one and the other guy was some other type of villain in the show.

That's a pretty dumb comment. That's like saying based on solely watching the final Seinfield episode, or Friends, or Fraser, that they weren't that great of shows.

Based on this thread, I guess HBO now knows how not to end a series (Sopranos) and how to end a series (Six Feet Under).

Its certainly never been the best show on HBO

My Favorites of now are Entourage and Curb your enthusiasm

I havent seen many from a while back, but I heard Arliss was the shit when he was on.

I just realized how completely opposite those two finales are.

Just a small town girl, livin' in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin' anywhere
Just a city boy, born and raised in south Detroit
He took the midnight train goin' anywhere

A singer in a smokey room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlights people, living just to find emotion
Hiding, somewhere in the night

Working hard to get my fill,
everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice,
just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlights people, living just to find emotion
Hiding, somewhere in the night

Don't stop believin'
Hold on to the feelin'
Streetlight people

Don't stop............

The ending was a copout and Tony should've been whacked OR if your going to fade to black like they did making it look like your damn cable or satellite went out, at least have the sound of gunfire when they fade to black and give the audience closure.. The ending to this for being on and off for 7 years wasn't even close to the great Series Finale endings from M*A*S*H or NEWHART..

To be pedantic, it doesn't "fade" to black. It cuts to black. This distinction is important and Chase choses it for a reason. A fade might have reinforced the "life goes on" theory. A sudden cut further opens it to interpretation.

Very interesting take.

Even though I liked the ending, I'm worried about the negative reaction to the season finale hurting the show's Emmy chances.

Too bad the last two episodes aren't eligible. Two of their best.

Actually I think some new rule makes them eligible, thats what I remember hearing once people creamed over the second to last episode.

I didn't watch the episode, but just from reading about it I'm behind the "Tony got whacked" theory. The death is like a cut to black speech apparantley earlier in the series corresponds with it too perfectly.

Though in reality, I think Chase definitley wanted to leave it as one of those interpretation endings, some people will think he died, some won't, some people will think the message is bad things don't always happen and life goes on, some people will think the audience got whacked like gun's theory, etc.

On a side note... A bullet depending on the gun can travel between 400 m/s and 1200+ m/s. The speed of sound at room temperature is approximatley 343 m/s. So really, the bullet would hit before he or us heard the sound, explaning that aspect of his probable death, the fact that he never saw it coming.

Post Re: The 'Sopranos' Thread ( Season 6 )
I know I am late. But I had never the chance to watch the show while it was on air. Though I got the Box this year and I finished it. And I have to say it is really one of the best ever.
The end? well.....I go with the "bullet kills you before you hear it" theory.

Yes, I love the ending too. Tony gets whacked no doubt about it.
