I loved it. It was incredible. Maybe the best Lost episode ever. Um, Mr.X if they continue with flashforwards instead of flashbacks, maybe things will be fixed in the future through the flashforwards.

It's a recurring theme in the episode, I think. I've heard it a few times now. The first is when everyone from the beach are all rucksacking up and leaving Sayid, Jin and Bernard behind.

I LOVED it.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but apparently Jack's father ISN'T DEAD. He referenced him at least twice about them going upstairs to go get him. Uhhhh....?

He was hopped up on drugs, man!
He's dead.

Jack was high when he was talking about his dad.
I just watched it again. I didn't notice the first time, but they brought Vincent on the trek with them. That just caps it off as the greatest thing ever.
Charlie could not have done anything to prevent his death. There's no way Desmond and Charlie could've figured out how to work the scuba gear before the entire station flooded. Charlie saved Desmond and still got the chance to warn him about Naomi.
Still best tv death ever .

He could have very well been drunk or whatnot, but I would like to go back and see the guy's reaction to his mentioning of his dad. But then again, he's new at the hospital so he probably doesn't know many doctors anyway.

Maybe, he just said it so plainly though. And I guess his dad did already lose his medical license, so why would he be there anyways?
That Mikhail guy just WON'T die lol. His grinning little face with the grenade cracked me up.
I thought it was funny that the Oceanic Airlines gave them free trips every Friday.

Free trips every day, Jack just used it every friday.
If your plane crashes, and there are survivors, you BETTER give them a gold pass!

Have we seen Jack's father die? I don't remember.
If we didn't, then maybe it's one of those "I'll believe it when I see it" TV reactions that we should take with shows like Lost, 24, etc. Heck, most of you did it during the episode, knowing full well that when Ben called for Tom to kill Bernard, Jin and Sayid, that they weren't actually dead, since we never saw them get shot. Only heard the gunfire.

Surely holding a grenade while it explodes will kill him this time.
Like when Murdock fell down that 15 story mine shaft in MacGyver.

We say that every time.
In Season 4, we'll say "Surely being shot 15 times will kill him this time."
In Season 5... "Surely being decapitated will kill him this time."
"Surely being cut up into a million pieces will kill him this time!"

I'm beginning to wonder if he's somehow related to that Richard guy. Maybe they're both not really real people or something?

I'm not gonna lie, I kind of like Mikhael. I think he's dead though.
I think all the buzz about Richard not aging might lead to nothing. Ben said to Jack that "not too long ago" he killed all the Dharma folk, meaning at most it was probably a couple years. I think they'll upgrade Richard's character all the same though.
Couple more things
flav'd - Couldn't Charlie have taken one more step to the other side of the door, and closed it from there? And who says they need scuba gear to get out, Des didn't need it or a rock to get in.
Snrub - Yes, I loved the score in this episode also. Kind of a military theme, one of those songs that get's you amped up for a big fight or event.
X - Jack's dad was not in his coffin, something never really explained on the show. But I don't know... it'd be kind of weak to fuck with the audience by not having him dead.

Good point. I can't remember either, but we did see the coffin, I think.

I think the only way to completely shut and lock it was from the inside, thus they would have both died had Charlie closed it from the outside. And someone needed to live in order to get the word back to everyone else about the boat.

We did see Jack's father dead on the morgue table though. Only explanation is that he faked it, which would be nuts, but whatever... this is Lost.

From a design standpoint, they'd have made it so you can close the doors from outside the room, in case one of the windows broke or leaked. The whole reason the doors are so strong is as a protection against flood.

Yeah that's the best explanation probably, that he wanted to die so Claire's rescue vision would be assured and this would be a fitting time overall.

Charlie should have at least banged Claire before he died.

Am I the only one here that thinks answering that call was the worst decision they could've possibly made? I'm not 100% positive as to whether or not it's a death squad, but I don't see any good coming from it.
Anyways, great episode, I especially enjoyed taking back the beach (Sayid's move on the fallen guy was one of the most badass things that's ever happened on this show) and as andaroo mentioned, Jack's speech at the end. Interesting episode.

How do we know he didn't?
Jack's father is not alive. The only reason he was mentioned in the flash-forward was to throw the audience off into thinking it was just another flashback. If he was still alive, we would have seen him for sure. I'm sure of this.
I'm pretty sure Charlie died not because he's an idiot, but because he wanted to make sure Desmond's vision came true. Rather heroic of him, actually, though I'm still glad he's dead.
One thing I'm wondering about is why isn't Kate in jail in the future. She's still a fugitive, shouldn't she have been captured when she got rescued? Or maybe that's why they had to meet in secret.
I also loved the music in this episode.
I still think Live Together, Die Alone is better, but this is close. Both are much better than Exodus.
What a great episode to get us talking about it so much. It certainly should tide us over for the next eight months.

Wasn't it revealed that Juliet had been on the island for 3 years?? The Dharma takeover was before she came so I'd say AT LEAST 3-4 years ago. When you have someone who might be immortal or ageless, it's kinda hard to think of "not too long ago" as a concrete period of time.

So the finale was rockin', I presume.
I'm trying to catch up. I just got through episode 5 of this season, the one where Eko dies. And it was boring crap, to be quite honest.

Yeah, the first 6 episodes compared to everything Not in Portland on is really night and day. I rank the first 6 as C/C- and the rest A+.

Holy holy holy holy holy shit
I just watched it
OH. MY. GOD.
Who is in the casket?
Did just Jack and Kate get off the island?
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON
Last night's episode was A+, for sure. The best single episode of any television program this season, bar none. I was even sad when Charlie died! And 've been rooting for that to happen for three freaking years!
