all their movies get NC-17 and then they have to edit stuff to bring it down to R.

There was some in Hostel Part 2, it was short but it still got an R.

They should keep it, it'd get a whole lot of buzz if it did, at least double what it would otherwise. And most of the audience is over 17 anyway. And the NC-17 rating needs a movie that can show that the rating isn't poison.

They'll certainly appeal it though.

Studios usually won't market or release an NC-17 film, that's why the rating is seen as the death knoll for any film.

and some theater chains may not carry it with the rating.

The R rating has become almost useless when it comes to informing a person of a films content.

these films are terrible and i don't see how people can watch them.

Yeah, it got an NC-17. Just like the last three did. There's no way it's going out without an R rating.

This is probably a publicity stunt to gain attention. The "come see Saw 4 because it's so shocking" shtick. A little bizarre this news breaks during Comic Con; also, with the questionable "toture-porn" cloud over the film this year and the audience starting to shift. We're basically heading for a new trend in horror.

A resurrection of the slasher maybe (seems to happen once every decade)? Maybe anthology/creepshow/ghostly type horror? In any matter (no matter what it is), there is going to be a shift, and it's going to start to happen within the year.

As far as the rating goes... This rating will never stick. I've been super shocked before, but I highly doubt it.

I still stick with my prediction. Saw 4 will do well, and then Saw is over... and out... Saw 5 will see the massive drop, and that will either be the end of it, or it will be limited in its audience.

I'm sticking with that, and if I'm wrong, oh well. Not the end of the world. I'm ready for new trends myself, because, honestly, I didn't much care for the old ones these last years. Creepy Chinese girls and tied up ice cube women just didn't do much for me.

Your spot on. Torture horror is about to die. Saw IV will make less than the original one and I see the real horror winner being Trick R Treat this year. Already audiences are shifting to a different type of horror with the sucess of Disturbia and 1408. The Mist looks to be another in this new trend that could be a success.
