Just make Star Wars a #12.5 or something. Or if something was forgotten from the beginning, I would've just left it the way it was then mentioned the forgotten ones at the end. Otherwise in a rush to include a film you'll put things too high, too low, etc.

No I did, but I certainly tweeked it a few times while doing the bottom 50. I would just be in a different mood. I happy with the most part. and to be honest, I love the first and third SW, but I think Empire is where its all about. The other films were there, I just ultimately cut them from the list.
I mean, its hard sometimes you just think differently about films. I just wanted to make sure the list wasnt heavily on one genre, and that it wasn't. I mean I already cheated enough by putting the Rocky films, Back to the Future, and my #100 of three films. Just noting they should be on the list, just arent

Oh I was constantly tweaking as well, btw. I had my movies more in set "areas", the numbers themselves would be shifting up and down spots constantly.

I don't mean the ranking of it, but the films that are in it. I mean, taking Star Wars out completely because you forgot another one? That's just weird...

Well I do love Cookoo's nest, and the whole time I found I had SW up too high on the list. It seemed like the only way to do right.
Thats why I did that list of films that thinking about it would have most likely been on the list if I did a little more time. The films that were on the list the longest before being cut were SW, Papillon, AN, and First Blood. The others I though I would eventually get them on, but they never quite made it.

HERE WE GO
10. The Usual Suspects- 1995
Superb acting (Spacey deserves every Award he gets in my opinion) Who would have thought Stephen (Biodome) Baldwin had talent that rivaled Alec at one point. Not a weak person in this very impressive cast. Fill that with all of the characters are complete badasses and terrible people, but at the same time you can't help but feel sorry. Keyser Soze is a mythical villain and even though he's revealed at the end, its not a cop out, in fact the ending only strengthens what "Holy Shit" villain this guy is. The ending is just a amazing exercise in editing and emotion. The rest of the film is just as cool. Its a very well done gangster film, thriller, and mystery, and some good action to boot. Very few flaws in this one.

9. Terminator/ Terminator 2: Judgement Day- 1984-1991
The most ground breaking effects at the time of their release and still remain influential today. Not that T3 isn't awesome, I'd give it an A to A+ for sure, but where as the other films where I've looped together feel in unicef and don't have a drop in quality, T3 dips lightly in the influential department.
James Cameron and Arnold Schwarzenegger created a terryfing cult classic in 1984, that is as much as horror film as it is Sci fi, action, and romance. Very simple concept that was awesome. Thought provoking and just interesting to watch, its a simple avoid the villian film, but never told so well. Micheal Biehn's first of many military/ cop characters to die. 7 years later and a state of the art budget, we are given not only one of the best sequels of all time, but also one of the most groundbreaking films of all time. I mean, it was just insane when this came out. Taking Last Crusade for highest grossing film of all time WW, it crushed all R rated records, except narrowly missing the domestic record. It past Beverly Hills Cop by almost 200 million WW. Not only that a solid 4 oscar wins, and deservingly so. Everything about the sequel was just magnificent. This was a solid one two punch.
Add it to the very solid T3, and you have the best R rated franchise of all time, almost unquestionable.

8. The Good, the bad, and the ugly- 1966
Yes, the best Western ever made, and one of the best films ever made in addition. Yes I've seen Once Upon a time in the west, countless John Wayne, Gary Cooper, and John Stewart Westerns. I always felt the spagheti westerns were the best of them, and this is the epitome of them. Its very rare that the third film of a trilogy is the best. Here we have The man with no name trilogy, starting with the solid Fistful of Dollars and the very very good Few dollars more.
It's a film that I'll admit I can't watch that often. I need to be in the right hindsight because its very long. In fact the new Directors cut puts it at just under 4 hours long. But there are truly masterful scenes throughout, and the last twenty minutes is just filmmaking at its finest

7. The Great Escape- 1963
Easily the best ensemble of actors in this era of film. Donald Pleasance, James Garner, Richard Attenbourgh, James Coburn, Charles Bronson and of course Steve McQueen. The best war film ever made, with the war no where in sight. It's really just an all around great movie, with a tragic ending, but definitely showed the spirit of the allied troops. Every character is great and the escape itself is epic, and is in fact based on a true story. Of course McQueen's character was completely fictional, but his motorcycle chase will always be legendary. You always wish he will made that final jump. Truly spectacular.
Of the 250 planned escape, 76 made it out of the camp, 50 were executed, 13 recaptured, and 3 actually made it out.

6. Forrest Gump- 1994
The greatest and most important guy in American history, is of course fictional. Man I just love this movie. It's so well made and is a perfect period peace that captures the different decades and settings its in. Tom Hanks very impressively tops every role he was ever in, and brings an American icon to us. Forrest Gump is so simple minded, yet accomplished so much. Zemeckis made such an appealing yet awesome movie. Its funny, epic in scale, and has perfect drama throughout and just tackles everything it goes on to do.

5. The Empire Strikes Back- 1980
The best sequel ever made in my opinion. And truly one of the only few necessary sequels that had more of a story to tell. Its certain very definition of how to make shakespeare or a greek tragedy in Space. Our heroes from the first adventure, Star Wars, are Back, but to our surprise, they are loosing badly, and are forced to split up. Luke goes on a mission to further his training, while Solo and Leia are on the run from the Empire, until they are captured. This is how a cliffhanger is suppose to be made in a series. It must have been fucking insane to see this in 1980. At first it seems as though C3PO is killed, then the most relatable character of the series, Han Solo, is killed, frozen. Our main Hero, Luke, fails completely, looses his hand, and finds out his most arch enemy of all time who killed his mentor, is in fact his father. That's great writing in my opinion. Add into the best Lighstaber battle of the old trilogy, awesome space battles and escapes, and of course Hoth and Cloud City. Everything about this movie reaks Originality, despite being a sequel.

4. Aliens- 1986
Where the first one had a simple yet effective Tagline, as did Aliens. Speaking of great sequels, here is another great from master James Cameron. It takes a very simple story and explores the very foundation of it, creating the Alien world from a horror realm in to pop culture phenomonen. The writing and direction top notch, acting and the characters are some of the most memorable, and the effects and action are superb all around. Thats not to say the film isn't scary, its in fact on the edge of your seat the entire time. People like to call it one of the best action films of all time, but its all set up and the payoff is glorious. They take there time setting up likeable characters and intense scenes to keep it in your face the entire time. It's just an awesome movie all around. Sigourney was defintely worthy of her nomination for best actress. Ripley's character was completely explored this time around, and her heart, passion, and perserverance are at the foundation of this series.
Now Alien 3, thats another story

3. Pulp Fiction- 1994
Superb film all around. Quentin Tarantino has never gotten it more right. Most of his films are ballpark homeruns, but this one was Natural style homerun. Writing is fresh, hysterical and filled with great twists and turns. The characters are brought to life by many actors who were considered pass their prime, or still early off, or in a slump, and they perform like the best of their time. Kickass soundtrack and just all around memorable scenes, quotes, and cameos throughout. The best gangster film ever made, because it has the movie feel, but at the same time has a realness to it.
