Post Re: KJ User's Top 100 Lists Vol.2 - MovieGeek
as a guy who thought 6-7 years ago that Spiderman was the best film ever, there are people that stupid and Argos I was one of them. I thought that special effects were great, screw BW films. They are boring and yawn fests and what beauty can they show to these (modern Cgi films)?

Then I saw these films and I was amazed that they could make such high quality BW films back then and made me remember who can have all the CGI and effects you want, its the acting and story that make a great film.

For Example:
Whats the best part in TDK, the special effects hell no!

What is TF minus the robots, a mediocre film at best.

Anyways apologize for interrupting your thread junio, please were dying for your top ten, best list easily.

10. Gosford Park

Just the most incredible script! I don't know how Altman could see his movies in his head while he was making them.

9. Man with a Movie Camera

Quote:
The most incredible cinematic experience of all!

8. The Insider

Almost made me quit smoking.

7. Children of Men

Quote:
A modern classic, Cuarón is the most exciting filmmaker today.

6. Ran

Quote:
The music is so beautiful. The taking of the castle is easily one of the best scenes ever in movies and as a whole Ran is pretty much close a perfect movie I think.

5. Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios

Quote:
Almodóvar is God to me and this his greatest gift.

4. Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Image

Quote:
Oh, I love it, I love it, I love it. I don't know if I wanna be Holly Golightly or if I want to be best friends with her or what, but I love this movie. This is like comfort food made into celluloid for me!

3. Citizen Kane

Quote:
The things that stay with us and the things we forget. Life is strange, isn't it?

2. Casablanca

Quote:
Sparkling dialogue!!

1. Sunset Boulevard

Quote:
The best movie about Hollywood by the best filmmaker Hollywood ever gave us. Gloria Swanson gives what I consider to be the best performance I have ever seen.

Joe Gillis: "They'll love it in Pomona."
Norma Desmond: "They'll love it everyplace."

Man With a Movie Camera! Wasn't expecting that.

I find it more interesting than enjoyable, but still an inspired pick.

I certainly have not. I imagine it is quite the experience. As would most films, I suppose.

It's a bit of a trip, but I was only half joking. To me it's like a thrill ride and an editing class unto itself.

The Insider is an inspired, unexpected choice for your top ten. The best film of 1999, if you ask me.

Are these going in any particular order? Can I do a list soon?

That's too long a wait!

Can you believe that I feel like my 100 has changed already, not dramatically but I feel as though I've seen movies since then that certainly deserve to be there: Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, La Strada, L'enfant, El ángel exterminador which struck me as top 20 material, Smiles of a Summer Night, maybe even The Shop on Main Street.

Roo's list died, you guys should start this up again. I, of course, have no list, yet, but would love to see yours. Let's go people, get this thing up and running, whether on volume 3 or whatever, I want to see more lists.

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

Are "Seventh Seal" and "Smiles of a Summer Night" the only Bergmans you have seen Junio?

I highly highly advise Cries and Whispers. It is, of the ones I've seen, by far his most divisive and powerful film. I'm not sure if you would love it or hate it but you'd probably have a strong opinion. Wild Strawberries is very good but doesn't carry the emotional power or philosophical depth of some of his other films.
