I was disappointed that they didn't use the more epic second half trailer music (I wonder where they got that from since now I don't think it was written for the movie)

Raffi, the music in the second half of the trailer was a combination of two songs. The first, which was played just 10 seconds or so in the trailer (the "come back to me" bit) is called "Breathing Space" by X-Ray Dog. And the more epic sounding music you heard was "Vision" also by X-Ray Dog.

You can hear them in full in the following youtube videos:

Breathing Space: http://youtube.com/watch?v=uRvXGN464WE
Vision: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5MvF9Rxaic

Peace,
Mike

wow. THANKS Mike!! How did you know/find those? And who is X-Ray Dog? What were those pieces written for? Nothing?

A while ago I, too, wanted to know what the music was in the Atonement trailer since I liked it so much. So I just googled "Atonement trailer music" and got some results. Found out what songs were in the trailer, and happened to find them on youtube.

X-Ray Dog is a music studio in California, I believe. They make music for movie trailers - a crapload of it. You can hear their music in a lot of movie trailers. One of my favourites is "Gothic Power" which is in the Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring trailer (and probably many other trailers too). There's a lot of trailers that I've seen that probably have X-Ray Dog music and I don't even know it, heh.

The crappy thing is X-Ray Dog music isn't available to consumers - they sell directly to movie studios. The song used in Atonement was probably bought by the studio to be used in the trailer. I'm not sure exactly how it works - whether the studio requests music, or just browses and finds a song they like from X-Ray Dog. I've heard some songs been re-used more than once in different movie trailers too. *shrug*

Peace,
Mike

Now with all this awards attention around Saoirse Ronan for Atonement, I'm getting even more excited for The Lovely Bones next year. There was early concern regarding the role of Susie Salmon in the film, whether the girl hired could pull it off, and now I'm very excited to see if Ronan can elevate the film even further than what I expect from Jackson.

The Lovely Bones will probably be the film I'm pimping next year, provided it actually ends up being a good film, well reviewed and thus a possible Oscar contender.

Peace,
Mike

That's answering your own question. Never trust E!, Fox-TV, or other shit like that. They're about as legitimate as Larry King calling every movie he sees the best ever made. And it's a zombie movie.

You should feel incredibly ridiculous for saying that....dude it's quotes from tv spots that came from hosts from some E! and Fox show, those quotes mean about as much as a review written from somebody that posted their review on Yahoo or IMDb, maybe even less considering those channels are paid to market the film.

For the two big ties, I gave it to the one for which it was probably a bigger deal to get.

see, i understand ONE review being like that, ONE Larry King rave...but these are four truly outstanding raves for the film. Again, I'm not calling this an OC, but I don't remember seeing ANY reviews like that for Spider-man 2 [if you'd like to prove me wrong, please go right ahead: there's about 200 reviews to choose from on RT]...and Larry King never goes beyond "The best movie of the year" or "The best _____ movie ever made," [usually in a sub-genre]...never "One of the greatest movies ever made."

i'm sure the movie won't be close to as good as those reviews suggest, but really, the fact that they exist can only be a good sign.

I can't address this anymore because its so insane.

But rest assured, there have been quotes from reviews like the above for shite movies.

Yeah, really, it's not hard to find some cool-sounding quotes for almost every movie.

So apparently There Will Be Blood is not only a contender for a BP nom, but also for the WIN!

And I guess I underestimated Amy Ryan. Sames thing as I said for TWBB replacing "BP" for Best Supporting Actress.

All of this Julie Christie love makes me extremely happy. Now if only Gordon Pinsent and Olympia Dukakis managed to get some attention too...

Both Sweeny Todd and There Will Be Blood are 100% Fresh on RT right now.

There Will Be Blood has 12 reviews in, an average rating of 8.2 -

Sweeney Todd only has 7 reviews in, with an average rating of 8.6 -

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1183955 ... et_street/

Both have the possibilty of really alienating critics so I guess the question is who'll get the first rotten grade.

Weird, just earlier today, TWBB had 13 reviews and a 8.4/10 average.

Well, there's one rotten review for ST at RT, but it doesn't count:

The Catch Me If You Can comparisons continue to be identical. That movie had a pretty huge 96% and 7.9/10 average... just too light for Oscar.

Ebert loves Juno... a lot:

Quote:
Jason Reitman's "Juno" is just about the best movie of the year. It is very smart, very funny and very touching; it begins with the pacing of a screwball comedy and ends as a portrait of characters we have come to love. Strange, how during Juno's hip dialogue and cocky bravado, we begin to understand the young woman inside, and we want to hug her.

Has there been a better performance this year than Ellen Page's creation of Juno? I don't think so. If most actors agree that comedy is harder than drama, then harder still is comedy depending on a quick mind, utter self-confidence, and an ability to stop just short of going too far. Page's presence and timing are extraordinary. I have seen her in only two films, she is only 20, and I think she will be one of the great actors of her time.

Mike

Charlie is still doing really great. 94%, 15 fresh 1 rotten, 7.6/10 avg. It really does seem like it delivered as the light entertaining satire it wants to be, it's just ironically not an Oscar type film.

Yeah, but Ebert seems to be liking everything these days. Guess being a whisker away from death will do that to ya.
